    I'm using CuteFTP... there doesn't seem to be a passive mode option.

    What FTP Client would you recommend?

      Get Flash FXP.

        Aye, Flash FXP seems to be working nicely.

        Thanks all!

          All I do is share all my drives in my PC with the Xbox connection, go to XMBC, go to Videos, select the network option suited to my home network and it opens fine and streams the video through it to watch. Didn't have to mess about with anything.

            OK, next problem:-

            If you have problems with SMB shares (which I did) just try ccxstream from the PC. Really easy I found.
            Yeah I'm having trouble, although I'd like to try and crack it.

            I've enabled 'Guest' access to my PC via the User Accounts section of the control panel, and have set my shared folders so that 'Everyone' has full access to them. Should that be enough?

            I'm selecting the 'WORKGROUP (SMB) Network' bookmark from the videos section of XBMC and I can view the domain, and select my PC. I then get a 'Access Denied' message.

            I've been looking at the xboxmediacenter.xml file, and there are a few things I'm not sure about. Here's a couple of the sections I think I may need to change?...

            Code:
              <samba>
              	<workgroup>WORKGROUP</workgroup>
              	<winsserver>-</winsserver>
              	<debuglevel>0</debuglevel>
              	<defaultusername>-</defaultusername>
              	<defaultpassword>-</defaultpassword>
              </samba>
            Code:
                    <bookmark>
                        <name>WORKGROUP (SMB) Network</name>
                        <path>smb://</path>
                    </bookmark>
            Any ideas? Am I missing something?

              That happened to me once for some reason, I just rebooted the Xbox and it worked perfect next time.

                I've got it sorted. I created a user called 'xbox' with a password the same on my PC, and then changed the .xml file to the following:-

                Code:
                  <samba>
                  	<workgroup>WORKGROUP</workgroup>
                  	<winsserver>-</winsserver>
                  	<debuglevel>0</debuglevel>
                  	<defaultusername>xbox</defaultusername>
                  	<defaultpassword>xbox</defaultpassword>
                  </samba>
                Works fine now, and it streams perfectly.

                Thanks for the help in this thread guys. Appreciated.

                  How do I set up filesharing stuff on my PC (and keep it only for xbox file sharing) as it will save me a lot of space on xbox hard drive.

                    Can all this (the ftp of XBMC and the streaming) be done on a wireless network too?

                    I have a wireless router (in the cupboard), a wireless usb dongle (for my pc) and a wireless gaming bridge (in my xbox)

                      Yeah mine is a wireless network... although the X-Box is directly plugged into the router. My PC is connected to the network wirelessly and the movie files stream over the network on my X-Box perfectly.

                        If you want to specifically restrict the shared folder for use by only the xbox, share the folder and assign file sharing(and NTFS permissions if you use XP) to a local user account that you create(mine is username:xbox password:xbox). You'll then need to alter the xml file that I mentioned above.

                          So I cant dont it completely wireless then? I just tried to set up an FTP to my Xbox and the program doesnt seem to find my Xbox (I keyed the correct IP afaik) so I guess I cant do it.

                            Should work.

                            Ive got both my PC and my Xbox hooked up wirelessly and I am streaming using XBMC. I'm using SMB shares on my PC using the method described here with a username/password setup for the xbox and that entered into the XBMC .xml file. Works fine although I have found for some video it pays to play around with the cache size on the Xbox in XBMC settings.

                            The speed of your wireless network will dictate how good video will stream, especially DVD rips but music will be fine. All my wireless network is 802.11g and I've had no issues really but going down to 802.11b might slow it up a little.

                              Hmmmmm. Maybe it's just the FTP prog then?
                              Maybe I need to use a cable from ethernet just to get XBMC onto my box first and then XBMC might find my Pc........maybe
