psone memory card not being recognized on ntsc(usa) games...is this normal?

Hi since with the help from this forum I now have a ntsc ps2..I have been playing ntsc ps2 games and SAVING the games on my memory card bought in europe

Now when I try playing and ntsc psone game it doesn't seem to work to save my game with my memory card from the psx that I bought years ago (europe also)

So is there a PAL/NTSC thing with the memory card for psx?

apperantly I have no problems with the ps2 memory card

    So is this normal?

    Thx

Oh I just found in a FAQ that psone memory cards are non region specific....but it doesn't work with me

I have like the psone mem card from the year its been released years ago..so is it maybe that the newer versions are non region specific and the older version not?

it always says "checking mem card" and then "please make sure the mem card is inserted correctly"

Maybe it's dirty or something? Try giving it a blow!

My old PS1 card (nearly 10 years old) works fine with any region game/console.

when i Insert the mem card in the console without a game and I use the console browser then I have two options

It says "the mem card is not formatted"..........want to format? "yes" and "no"

Unlike the ps2 memory card I CANT browse the card to see what gamesaves are on it from which games....I CAN do this with the ps2 one

the only option I have is the wanna format yes or no thing....is it normal that I cant browse the savegames and delete certain saves If I would choose to do so like on ps2 mem card?

maybe this is a clue of whats wrong with it?

Surely it would need to be formatted before you can save anything to it? Try formatting it,browse it,and you should have a fresh memory card.

well thats the problem if I choose to take "yes" with format It says that the card is formatted and the card icon dissapears from the browser window

then when I restert the console again the psone mem card icon is back and I press the "x" but once again it asks format or not

thats all it ever says I cant browse the card it seems

and after I take to format it still doesn't work in the game

The problem seems to be that I cant browse the card and thats very weird and that is probably part of the problem

            for example

            slot 1: psone card
            slot2: ps2 card

through browser I go to the ps2 card press "x" and I browse the card with the savegames

I go to the psone I press "x" "wanna format or no message" no browsing whatsoever

Is it an official PS1 memory card?

If it's a 3rd party memory I wouldn't be spuprised if it's faulty, they're terrible in my experience. Try cleaning the connectors with white spirits, failing that I'd say the card is dead.

i use a 3rd party ps1 card that i've had for years with no problems and don't really understand why you should have any either. :/
iirc you can only use the ps1 mem cards in slot 2, are you using port 1 ? Or, if you still have your ps1 try formatting it in that?
other than this, the card may be dead as previously mentioned. (had that aswell, especially the compressed kind)

Yes it is an Official card....and last time I used it with my psx it still worked so I dont think the card is dead.

Ill try using it on my pal ps2 and see what happens there......after that I'll try on my psx

If the same thing happens then I'm sure that its not cause of the ps2 is ntsc

                      FIXED:

Ok I used my PAL ps2 with the mem card and I could immidiatly browse my savefiles.

Now what I did was i deleted the savefiles (all pal games) and made the mem card empty

                      Now it seems to work

The problem seems to be that the psx mem card CAN'T have savefiles of both PAL and NTSC on them at the SAME time.

While the ps2 card doesn't seem to have that problem.
So its region free it seems but you will still need 2 mem cards it seems for each region of savefiles

If you have both regin games try and test it

Nope, just checked to make sure and it still works for me.

My PAL Wip3out SE file shares the card quite happily with my JPN saves.

Strange. I have an official PS1 card which has PAL and US saves happily co-existing. I just tested it now and was able to put a JP save on there too (using a JP PS2) with no problems.

Oh noo lol now i have still a problem.

After deleting all the pal savegames it seemed to work but the moment I tried to save a game (ingame at a savepoint) it keeps stuck at the

"saving now dont remove the memory card" message

Have this with all the games tested.
And it seems you guys dont have any probs with both ntsc and pal on ONE card?

Oh man dont know what to do anymore

actually I'm starting to have doubts wether or not it IS official...I always assumed it was official (bought it like 6-7 years ago just when psx was brand new)

so I started looking online at the details of HOW an official one actually LOOKS

so i went to ebay (UK version) to check out pictures of the card (easiest way to find a pic of it unpackaged)

and I came up with this pic

now I looked at the appereance of my card and noticed these differences

1)It doesn't have the playstation logo on it (the logo and the actual word "playstation" under it ) are NOT on my card

2)under the logo it also hasn't got the words "MEMORY CARD"

3)and at the bottom is also hasn't got the sony logo on it

                              4) oh and at the top the two holes from the pics are also not on mine

now I dont know if psx card have always looked the same or changed a bit over the years but do official ones always look like the above picture??

I never realized this but I might actually have a unofficial one
