To get RGB you would need a RGB cable and a RGB compatible SCART socket. I think i'm right in saying that (nearly) all modern TV's have at least 1 RGB compatible SCART socket.

Which TV are you actually looking at now?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think by law, all TVs bigger than 14" have to have at least one RGB capable SCART socket.

The chance of finding a TV, especially bigger ones, that don't support RGB is so slim anyway....

No offense intended Lyris, but I doubt that there is law which states that TV's over 14" must have an RGB enabled Scart socket.

Maybe an EU legislation or directive or something like that, but even then I'd be suprised.

However, find evidence and I'll soon take back the above. Can anyone else offer any light on this?

But, Lyris is right, that finding a big TV without RGB would be very, very strange.

Actually yep, you're right, it doesn't seem to be required in Britain at least, but:

Unfortunately, the 21-pin plugs were unobtainable for many years but now they are standard on nearly all TVs and VCRs sold in Europe. In fact, in some European countries such as France it's mandatory. We've since come to know its name well, SCART -an acronym for its originator (Syndicat Francais des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radio et Television).

wow, cheers Lyris, I can't say I ever knew that. I had always wondered what SCART stood for. So we've got the French to thank for 21-Pin SCART sockets then.

I suppose it's one of those things that should be mandatory in the UK, but it's so standard now that leaving it out a new TV would be asking people not to buy it.

          Cheers Lyris.
