I use the Hori SC2 stick for Virtua Fighter 4/Tekken 5 and it's superb. Definitely the best stick I've ever seen (arcade or home)

If you do find a reasonably priced source, let us know. I love my Cube one, but there's a stack of PS2 stuff I'd like to use one with as well.

edit - Console Plus have it, but they want ?45...

They were ?29.99 when I got my pair from Another World (now Forbidden Planet).

It's worth going in and asking if there are any indicated on their inventory system - they can check the stock of any other store. Both of mine were sitting rotting in a stock room... they weren't even out for sale!

I've used quite a number of sticks and would have to say that these SC sticks are one of the best ones out there money can buy. Second only to the Real Arcade Pros but those ones are huge and cost a fair bit. The SC sticks are good for anything as its got 6 buttons which means it can be used for Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter and a whole lot of other games.

How does the Hori SC stick compare with the Dreamcast arcade stick? (Yes I know they're a different format but the DC stcik is the only stick I've spent a good amount of time with)

The DC is a touch looser, and the base is a fair bit bigger. It's a close call, but I slightly prefer the SC2.

I prefer the DC as it feels like it has less travel and is a bit stiffer. The SC2 is a close second - my mate prefers it to my RAP.

Ah. Clearly one of us has a stick that's more worn in, then. It's probably me; my DC one has seen a fair bit of use, and could do with a clean.

I made sure my DC stick was stiff and standing at attention.

                    Big laughs. Ho ho.

on the arcade stick front does anyone know if the arcade-x stick that is advertised on shoryuken.com is any good as that works with all formats as it has different connectors for each,

Nope - for the money they is pants. I'd have one cheap but I'd never pay the current ?60-70 or whatever it is for a single stick setup.

The button configuration is horrible for fighters.

From impressions that I have heard of, it's not that hot - The american sticks and buttons are merely chinese mass-produced clones of the real deal, and the encoder has problems with certain X-Box games.

Personally, If I wanted a multi-purpose stick I would have gone down the converter route, Which I have - a good Hori SC2/RAP and a Magic Box goes down a treat for SF:AC, as well as homebrew.

that is great news as it is now a mistake that i will not make, id love a arcade pro hori, they look like the cats whiskers, at the monment im using magic and saturn pads for offline fighters and when online i have been using the gamester xbox stick, but its not great, the buttons are poor and the base shape is absolutely shocking... the whole thing rotates under your hands when used for prolong fights.
