I'd definitely take my money elsewhere - I've had three televisions from them in the past, and the company has the worst after-sales support I've ever experienced.

The first TV was a Sharp CRT I bought years ago (back when they still made 'em, just before the Aquos was released) which died on me after having it about 9 months. By this time, Sharp no longer sold CRTs, and I spent at least 4/5 months without a television trying to get some sort of resolve. They only wanted to offer me about ?100 back as I had 9 months use out of it! Eventually I got credit for the full amount, and bought a Panasonic CRT, which is still going strong.

I then bought the Samsung, and was without a television for over 4 months, which speaks for itself.

don't know what to do, they said it should be in next week but the lying bastard have said that before

I went with ED cuz i had an amazing experience with then when i bought my last TV.

I was also told that the only difference with the GA6E and GD7E is the colour, auto-backlight, menu system, and built-in Freeview tuner though - the panels and technology driving them is the same, so it's a real shame that the backlight isn't adjustable on all inputs for the GA6 - I'd prefer to buy it, as I have no need for another Freeview tuner, and would prefer to manually adjust the backlight. They did confirm that the "OPC" backlight adjustment should work on all inputs on the GD7 though.

Someone on AV Forums mentioned he knows the service menu code for the GA6, so maybe the backlight will be able to be permanently lowered there, getting around the problem. (and hopefully both sets use the same codes)

They also said that there are no new models planned for release soon here other than a P55, which is essentially the P50 with a built in Freeview tuner. (I asked, as a whole new range is due in USA / Japan around March, but they confirmed that Europe usually lags behind the two by about 6 months)
Did you manage to get that code then andrew, and more importantly, does it allow the user to fiddle about with the things you were looking for?

Someone gave me the code for the GA6E, so I'm hoping that it will be the same.

To get into the service menu.

            1) Turn the TV off using the power button on the set itself
            2) Wait thirty seconds
            3) Press & hold "volume down" and "input"
            4) Power on the TV using the power button on the set itself (keep holding the "volume down" and "input" 'buttons)
            5) Keep holding the "volume down" and "input" 'buttons until the set powers up and the service menu is displayed.
What I want to adjust is RGB cuts & gains (may be labelled differently) and I was hoping the GA6E would let you adjust the backlight there (to force a lower one on all inputs) but apparently it can't be done.

I didn't ask about the RGB stuff, so I don't know if it is adjustable, but I would assume so. (it has been on every set I've used) I'd appreciate it if you could get some info on what's in the service menu. (just be sure not to change anything you're not sure of)

Right tried it, and the service menu does pop up. Quite a few options, but the problem is, I have no idea whatsoever what any of them mean (except for the audio stuff).

If you want, I can take a few pics of the menus, and upload them, or I can just type up all the menu options.

Pictures are probably easier, so as long as they're readable, that'd be great thanks.

Managed to get as many as I could with menus, sub menus etc. so that you know what is there. If you want more detailed ones of a particular menu etc. let me know.

That's perfect thanks - looks like I can adjust everthing I need. The "RGB White balance" may actually be the colour decoder from the looks of it. (white balance with the cuts & drives is used for greyscale calibration)

I really hope this works on the GD7 series now. Should order some time next week, as soon as Amazon refunds my cash for the 37PF9830.

has anyone got an opinion on the new samsung hd lcd's?

                        samsung LE27T51B in particular.

i am really interested in buying one as it looks ace, but there has to e a catch at such a low price? the contrast level of 2000:1 seems totally unrealistic for an lcd too.

From what I remember reading about it, it has no HDMI socket.

but it is advertised as hd ready here:

                            http://www.digiuk.com/productdetail....84&guid=&s=&sm=

i'm seroiously considering one as it is specified as less than 12 ms response time, and as it will be used mainly for xbox360/pc gaming it sounds good. besides sky hd will be out in a matter of weeks now.

                              It's got a HDCP-compliant DVI - that's enough for HD-Ready certification.

Yea, aint HDMI the same as/successor to DVI? the main differences being that HDMI is a smaller conector and carries audio, unlike DVI which is just video.

                                I think.
DVI will prob be just fine.

ps still no TV 37 days passed since ordering.
