but definately better for Blu Ray.

Do you know what models they are? Are they actually any good, last time I checked Sharp made some real nasties, as did LG.
I should have the model numbers tomorrow as I knew it was kind of futile asking without them, but having never had 1080p output, I wasn't sure if that was a big thing or not.

Sharp's stuff is decent and is priced quite nicely. At HDTVtest I just finished reviewing one. My biggest gripes were some usability issues and the fact that it was difficult to calibrate the greyscale (so you had to put up with the standard "TV look" of tinted blue).

are 1080p lcd tvs worth paying the extra for as i'm looking for a 32" lcd tv for my xbox 360 and watching tv

i have seen a samsung 32" lcd for around ?350 720p version on a few websites but also seen a 1080p version for abit extra

32" will be big enough i think as i will be sitting quite close to the tv and think a larger screen wouldn't be better as i would see any faults in the picture

kinda thinking the 1080p will be the better buy

        any advice ?

Almost all games are 720p, and TV broadcasts have very little actual resolution. So unless you LOVE Virtua Tennis 3 or are watching Blu-ray Discs, there's not much point in 1080p.

We can safely say the next generation of consoles will be doing a lot more 1080p though, so if you're interested in futureproofing it may be worth getting a 1080p set. Although asides from that angle Lyris is definitely right, for just now 720p is pretty much the best you can hope for out of consoles.

The TV you saw for £350 is probably the same Sammy I bought this time last year, only then it cost nearly £600. Moral of the story is, 1080p sets will be a hell of a lot cheaper in a year or two, and in the meantime there's little point in owning one so you're better off waiting.

With my MacBook set to 1280x768 and connected to my Samsung LE27T51 HDTV via VGA, my TV reports the signal as 1360x768, even though the manual says there is no support for 1280x768.

Should I take that as confirmation that A) my TV supports 1280x768 or, B) that my Mac is, in fact, sending a 1360x768 res?

The reason I want to know is that I am thinking about purchasing an upscaler that only does 1280x768.

                Thanks for any advice.

EDIT: incorrect res given above, which, in effect makes the question null and void. Still be interested to know why the TV reports the wrong res.

I think 32 inch 720P is ok for gaming but it is not big enough for sport games like Fifa 2008 or PES. I got one and is happy with TV apart from being not bigger enough and harsh on SDTV games especially PS2.

If you are buying one for game room only go ahead, but if you are buying it for games, movies, TV, football you should go for 42 inch 1080P at least.

been thinking about this and wonder if i would be better going for a 40 or 42 inch but think this might be too large as i currently live at home so don't have a big room to have it in as that's why i decided on a 32

as i currently have my 360 through my 22inch pc monitor

Quick bit of advice guys, I'm starting uni in a few weeks, and was going to just take my laptop, DS and PSP. Beginning to have second thoughts!

Does anyone know of a decent, not too high priced, small HDTV (15" maybe?). Anything bigger would be a pain to transport across the country, plus my dorm is so small I won't need it.

I think samsung do a couple of monitors that have component and hdmi inputs, 19inch I think. Can't imagine you'll find one smaller nowadays

I'm thinking of getting a new 1080p tele. Looking for one between 32" and 42". The only problem is i can only get one on my catelogue www.greatuniversal.com
Could someone highlight me the best ones to look into from there, i heard the Samsung have ghosting and jerkyness problems.

Second thoughts i might just get one off a website like Digital Direct, I've used them before. Are there any other websites out there that are just as good with good finance options?

I'll be using it for gaming and 1080p HD-DVDs and Blu-rays. Any recommendations?

These days, basically anything from Samsung or Sony, provided it's in these screen sizes: 32, 40, 46, 52 or 70 (if you have just acquired a vast amount of money from a person with failing health :P ). Or a Toshiba ZF series TV.

Excellent, my maximum is around the £1200 mark. But don't want a plasma. The only worries i have are lag for games. I'm thinking of going for this one http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/produ...oduct_id=14019
I can't seem to find many tv's on there that are a 100hz.
