One caveat she has put in place is that the tv needs to be silver. I'm looking at spending a grand at the most, but ideally less that that.

Can any of you suggest some TVs I can show to her?

Ooohhhh I reckon the Sony EX series would really be right for her!

A few days ago I purchased a Samsung 50'' Plasma (PN50A450) My previous HDTV was a Panasonic 32'' (TC32LX60) After much faffing about I'm still not content with the image on the Samsung. It looks really washed out and ill defined. I'm not sitting at my usual distance, the screens too big for that. Does anyone have any experience with this model? I'm running a PS3 through HDMI, movies seem better though there seems to be occasional green square sized flashes? The 360 is going through component and it's here it looks awful.

I'm set to exchange it for a Samsung 46 series 5 LCD (LN46A500) Can I expect the quality of this model to match that of my Pansonic?

I have not heard of the Samsung you're talking about, got any links??

        Why don't you consider maybe a Panasonic 42 PX80 plasma or a samsung 42 756 or Sony 40 W4500.

Your Panasonic was a very good screen, you are looking at budget sets to replace it with which have poor black levels and will always look washed out, plus the processing is going to be pretty poor so blowing the image up to 46 and 50" is going to make it look really soft too.

        What is your budget??

Ahh. Well, the Samsung 50'' is here:

And the one I was gonna replace it with is here:

Budget is around the 1000 mark. I actually went back to playing on my Panasonic last night! Please help, I want to do something as soon as tonight!

TBH, 50'' is too big for me.

Has anybody got this set and could recommend it? Alternatively, are there any similar TVs for around the same price which anyone could recommend?

            Cheers!
I bought the analogue tuner model of this about thirteen months ago (LG 22LS4R) and the remote control gave in about a month ago. I thought the batteries had just gone flat, but even after changing them the remote still wasn't working.

A bit of Googling found that LG screens have a habit of de-syncing from the remote, requiring a complete replacement of the IR sensor and main board.

It's not too much of an inconvenience for me to use the buttons on the top of the screen, but it doesn't stop me wishing my remote still worked. I don't suppose anyone else has this same screen/remote problem?

Regarding the screen itself, the picture quality and colours are generally great, although there's very slight backlight bleed noticeable around the outside of the screen during dark scenes. The on-board speakers are also weak, but I hook mine up to external speakers anyway.

For the price, though, it's great - you won't find a cheaper screen with HDMI, component, VGA and Scart sockets.

I would not even consider a Samsung unless it was a series 6 or higher.

              Get the Panny PZ80 mate....

Don't even consider anything else, I know you want bigger but why buy something big and **** when you can loose 4" and have a stunning set??

Or the 46" version for $1399...

The **PZ80 TVs (assuming the ones in the US are the same as the ones I reviewed) are fantastic, and have great value for money to boot.

Thank you both for your input! I held off buying a new HD, I just got my refund until I'm sure of what I want. Very happy with the Panasonic brand, though I've heard mixed things about plasmas in general. Some people swear by them while others consider them a hassle.

Any other suggestions would be welcome too!

                    Like what??

I just bought a 42PX80 yesterday for the bedroom, at ?499 it seemed rude not to.

I have owned the following plasmas....

Pansasonic Full HD PF11 (current main room)
                    Panasonic PHD8 42 and 50"
                    Panasonic PX70
                    Panasonic PHD6
                    Panasonic PW6

                    Pioneer 428XD
                    Pioneer 508XD
                    Pioneer 436XDE
                    Pioneer 435XDE

                    And the following LCD

                    Panasonic 32LXD60
                    Samsung R87 37"
                    Samsung Series 7 40"

Now the Samsung LCD I thought was very good in certain areas, but still no where near as good as an all round image as the PX80 at half the price. The black levels are poor, on gaming when you move quickly you loose loads of deatil/resolution and the viewing angles are still terrible.

The Pioneer Kuros are good, and on paper they have everything else pipped, but to actually sit down and watch and image I would have to put the Panasonic PHD8 at the top of the pile. It is razor sharp with both SD and HD, the image is clean as a whistle, there are no phospher trails (the equivilent to LCD motion blur) and the colours looked very CRT like.

I just sold mine for ?400 and paid ?1300 for the newer 1080p version, but have to say I am a bit gutted with the move, HD is slightlyu better, the blacks are definitely better, but the image is definitely softer, it looks more like the Pioneer Kuros in that respect and that is why I sold them on, along with the twittering pixels they have.

But the best bang for your buck has to be a Panaosnic PX80 (or PZ80 if you have to have 1080) I just love this screen, and fgor SD I prefer it to the PF11 at nearly 3x the price, with HD you have to have them sat next to each other to tell the difference, so it just seems an absolute bargain.

The Samsung 7/8 series are regarded as good as it gets when it coems to LCD and I thought it was still miles behind the PX80, so don't know who has been telling you porkies about plasma but right now they are still way in front.
Give it another 12-24 months and I think that could change, but for now why not buy a PX80 cheap and enjoy it for 2 years, then see what is about again then??

                      I've just bought this

                      http://www.currys.co.uk:80/martprd/s...&category_oid=

I went in with a 47" in mind, I found the size a little overbearing though, it wouldn't have worked in my living room. This 42" looks good, I was blown away with the picture quality.

I need to sell my current tv. Its a Teco TL3281RT. I've got no box for it, how much could I ask? Its a great little tv with a superb picture.

Just a quick question really, looking at moving up from my old samsung plasma (p42d4s) That I have found great. What I'm mainly after is a set for consoles, then blu ray, then SD & so on.
I've been looking at Panasonic th-42pz85b or the Sony kdl40w4500. Any coments on them, for input lag, IR or any thing else? Thanks

I got a Sony KDL-40L4000 from Sainsbury's a month or two ago and am really pleased with it. It handles the various inputs well and SD content doesn't look too bad at all.

Any of you ordered a TV with Currys? I went in on New Years Day and bought a 42" Panny. I'm still waiting for it to come into the store so they can arrange delivery. TBH I'm really not impressed, am I within my rights to get my money back if its not here soon. When I rang them last night they couldn't confirm a delivery date and asked me to call back next week.

When i drop nearly 1k on a telly I expect better customer service.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask (might have to make my own thread lol) but I have a slight issue that I need some advice with.

I've got a Sony KDL3500 tv, and wanted to connect my PC to it once in a while. My graphics card has two DVI sockets, so not an issue. The TV only has a VGA socket, but a VGA to DVI adapter sorts that out and it works well enough. However the best resoultion the TV can handle through VGA isn't very good - nowhere near the 1080p I know the set can do - and does do for everything else.

I saw online a DVI to HDMI cable and thought that if I got one of those, I could plug the PC in that way and perhaps get a higher resolution that way. I got the cable this morning, plugged it all in but get nothing - no image and my computer doesn't even recognise it as a second monitor or anything? I even unplugged my monitor and put the cable in that socket - because I knew it was outputting something but still no joy?!

Any thoughts/ideas what I need to do to make it work?

*EDIT* I think I've got this sussed now. I was running the cable through a HDMI switch. You need to power it when you run more than a couple of devices, which I don't do. I haven't got a power lead to test just yet, but I did test the cable by plugging it straight into the TV and it all worked perfectly as it should
