Can't you get 1080p LCDs for that price these days? My 720p set is 42" and at my viewing distance it doesn't matter, but it might be different for you.

e.g. http://www.richersounds.com/showprod...=HITA-UT42MX70 (I have no idea if this is good, but it's 1080p). You'd need a separate sky box or freeview box though - there's no tuner in it (same with mine).

Hi guys, some advice again please. Before Christmas I was asking about the Sony KDL32V4000 but we never got round to buying one. What's happened to that set? It's disappeared from the internet!?!
We now have a load of John Lewis wedding vouchers to use and my mind has turned back to TV's especially as they do price matching and also 5 year warranties.
So, 6 months later, what's the new kid on the block for that level set? I see the KDL32S5500 and it's a bit pricier but is that the replacement? Or are there other manufacturers I should be looking at now? Price range is as close to 400 as we can get really.
I knew I should have tried to get one in the Richer Sounds boxing day sale for 300 quid

Do I need to turn down brightness or whatever for first 30 hours or what.
People argue frenetically about running-in times, but I left mine in Eco mode for the first 100 hours, with brightness and contrast set at <50.

It'll mainly be used for watching freeview and upscaled DVD's by the way.
It's irrelevant for TV and DVD but for videogames, it's basically like playing on a laggy connection on games that aren't (usually) designed to compensate for it.

I have been looking at TV stands for my new 50 inch plasma and want something suitable for gamer. I want something cool and hide my cables if possible and not exceed £150. No wooden cupboard or anything.
Any recommendation ? As most of them are designed for TV, DVD player, Amp and one more thing.
I will be using
XBOX 360, PS3, DC, Wii, PS2, AV receiver, Sky HD, HD DVD player, AV control center.
I would like room for Gamecube, N64, XBOX as well and new Blu Ray player eventually.

No idea whether or not this is the right thread, but heigh ho.
Basically the missus and I are looking at new tvs, due to the existing one making a high pitched noise for hours on end every so often. I saw on tv this morning that Currys were having a sale, so I decided to check out what they had online.
I found a HD Ready Samsung 32" tv for 350 quid, but alarms started ringing when i read down the page and saw the phrase '50hz'.
I've got dozens of region 1 dvds, even a region 4 dvd, and I've unlocked all the dvd players in the house to play them. Being a n00b scum, I'm under the impression that region 1 ntsc dvds need a 60hz tv to run them. Is this right or have I made it up?
Will my Godzilla dvds play on that 50hz samsung HD ready tv?
