depends what you want really, no set is perfect. Obviously lag is something you need to strongly consider for gaming; you can really get bogged down in technical speak/set problems if your not careful, which can make the whole experience quite unpleasant. Try and demo the set before before buying, but remember shops lighting and settings are usually very different to your own.

    I recently got a new set and i was primarily looking for;

good response time, low lag for gaming (GAME mode, but make sure its adjustable)
    1080p/24hz for HD movies
Something with a decent colour management system for calibration
    10/12 bit colour
    50" + size

i ended up with the sharp 52LE700 LED and am really pleased with it!

    heres some pics

    Troy blu ray
    Wipeout HD ps3
    Uncharted 2 ps3
    Afterburner climax ps3
    Speed racer blu ray

there is also a 40/46" version of it

Ooh, that does look like a nice picture (although I know it's not a good idea to go off photos). Wipeout looks really stunning there.

The problem I have is that I was all set on the Panasonic Plasmas until the whole issue of the rising black levels raised its ugly head. It's a shame because I'd owned a Panasonic plasma ages ago and it was great, but there's just too much uncertainty on the issue at the moment to warrant taking a risk.

So, I would go for LCD but where it's going (it's for the living room so is restricted as to where it can be placed) means that I'm slightly concerned about viewing angles.

the viewing angle on this set isnt great, but there is a LE705 out/coming out which improves this

I would recommend you look at the Samsung C650s, amazing black level for an LCD and decent viewing angle. Oh, but what's that? 45ms of lag in Game mode?

If I had to buy a TV (which I don't because review samples are always covering up my real TV) I'd get a Panasonic Plasma and make sure I got a warranty on it.

Picked up a Panasonic VT20 3D set a couple of weeks back and couldn`t agree with Lyris more. Highly recommend this years line up of panasonic plasmas, especially for gaming. My PS3 and xbox games never looked so good, especially when in motion

Is there really no phosphor lag? Stop teasing me. Even with rising black levels, a plasma with no phosphor lag would pretty much be my perfect TV.

I haven't noticed any phosphor lag on my G20, but won't comment on rising black levels seeing as its hasn't even been used for 100hrs yet

My review should be up in a few hours, I will link you.

Bottom line: phosphor lag exists but is vastly decreased, and it is the best HDTV on the market right now. It is a KURO-beater in some respects.

Hodge: I don't think anything is available to consumers yet, but you should pick up a player (I say that so casually!) and 3D Blu-ray Discs when they start to appear. I'm a bit of a convert...

Was gonna pick up a 3D player with the TV, but with the hefty price tag on the Panasonic 3D blu ray player and no films out in 3D yet, I though their was no point at this time. Think I will wait on till the price drops and a few films start to get released on the format.

As for Phosphor lag I can`t say I`ve noticed it on any on games, only on the odd film and it`s that slight on my set I wouldn`t even call it trailing/lag . TBH though it is far far less obtrusive compared to the issues LCD`s are plagued with.

Plasmas have come along way imo and given the chance perform alot better than LCD`s. Biggest plus for me is they give a far more natural picture thanks to plasmas unlimited viewing angle, motion handling and excellent contrast ratios and reminds me of my CRT days a little

Been playing Ridge Racer 7 on It early and can say it`s an absolute joy to play on a 50inch 1080P plasma, so crisp

Currently umming and ahhing over the Sony Bravia KDL40EX503U.

I've read over at AVForums and the general consensus seems to be that it's great for the price.

I've got a ?250 money off voucher at Amazon that I can use, so for ?500 it doesn't seem like a bad deal. Any thoughts or other suggestions?

I have a 40EX503 sitting here awaiting review, but that's gonna be another week, if you can hang on. I have some 3D displays to do first.

Excellent review, thanks for linking to this Lyris or I might have missed that it had gone up. Sounds like you're very taken with it.

However now I'm back in a spin because I'd just decided I didn't need the VT20 and would be happy with a G20

Booooooooooooo. Ta for the effort, tho. If you think Resi 5 is bad for it, try Far Cry 2. Without a doubt, the worst game (I own) for showing up lag.
