Its a european variation of the model that we all have, main differences being that it has a DVI socket instead of an HDMI port. I can't find any information as to whether the DVI supports HDCP to make it truly HDready

      What about the Acer one?

It seems pretty Good (No HDMI socket though), but for ?20 you can buy the 32" samsung TV that many of us have and are very happy with which is tried and tested as being a fantastic HDTV

I've almost convinced the missus I need to replace my PC monitor with a 26"/27" LCD. Naturally I would also be looking to stuff my US CG (component) and US PS2 into the rascal as well.

Recommendations please guys. There seems to be 3 or 4 good models around with varying price tags up to the ?800 Sony Bravia from Play.

            TIA

Samsung HDTV customer support - pain in the arse

              Hi guys,

Dunno if you lot remember, but about a month and a half ago I got myself a shiney new 26" Samsung LCD HDTV from www.dabs.com ....

After about a week or so I noticed a strange anomaly with the screen; the very top line of the screen was intermittently flickering. I looked on the dabs.com site and they basically don't offer any kind of replacement. You can only return the set and get a refund, then buy another tele (which would take ages)....they instead recomend that you deal direct with Samsung.

So, I phoned up Samsung just now, apparently they don't offer a replacement, they don't send out engineers to take a look at the tele, they ONLY collect and take away the set for repairs, which takes 5-10 working days.

Now, considering this is the only tele in the house, and considering that I just forked out ?650 for this thing I am not a happy chappy. I can either keep the defective tele and put up with it, send it back to dabs.com for a refund and be without a tele completely or get Sam-****ty-sung to come and take it away for repairs....

My Xbox360 is due here tomorrow so none of those options seem very viable at the mo! I can't believe that I can just be sold an expensive piece of faulty hardware and nobody is willing to replace/come take a look at it in situe.

              Fekking retarded.

What you guys reckon I should do?

Buy another one from somewhere else, then send it your one back to dabs and tell them to shove it.

Agreed. I'd ask for a refund and buy another television elsewhere if they won't replace it.

I've had problems with the 26" Samsung HDTV myself. A bit of dust is caught underneath the screen and dead pixels are around the centre (someone collected it today).

I'd heard that the build quality of Samsung's was supposed to be quite high, but the more I hear of stories such as these, the more unconvinced I'm becoming.

It's the amount of them sold, i'd say.

An i'm speaking as someone who didn't have their tv for 6 weeks, had it for a week, and now haven't had it for just over 2 weeks and counting.

The 6 weeks was 4 weeks of waiting for spare parts. It went back as the spare part Sontec fitted was broke, so a duff vga port and no sound from the TV at all. Waiting for another mainboard again now.

                      Wow. That was another Samsung?

And I thought I had bad luck with technology.

Play said they'd replace it after checking it and mention of nothing of repairs on their site. I hope I'm not left hanging dry well into the new year.

Yep, i was a very very early adopter, got it in July i think.

No problems whatsoever with it, other than the board wouldn't accept the firmware upgrade so that's what started it.

Did you get it from Dixons? It takes about a week for delivery.

                                Haha!

Speak to any of the dealers on avforums, they won't toch the Samsung or Hitachi sets because the build is so poor and the way they treat customers and suppliers is shocking!
