Hi guy's I've got a couple of questions.Do plasma's suffer from geometry issues like CRT's?I've got a 32 inch widescreen crt that has issues and since the big earthquake we had on the weekend the geometry has gotten worse. Can these problems be fixed?

No they don't. Each pixel is addressed individually so there is no distortion.

Interesting to hear the geometry is worse after an earthquake. It can probably be fixed in service mode, but it'd be best to have an ISF person or equivalent do it; I remember those screens can be quite complicated.

Recently purchased the panasonic P42S21 and have now been hit by burn in issues with this set

Had this model since the end of august and i now have the kills/ score counter from halo reach permantly etched onto the screen! Tried everything to get rid of it but it’s just not going away. Is this something i’m just going to have to put up with or is there something i can do?

The reason this has annoyed me so much is because apart from this problem i absolutely love this tv. IQ, motion handling and input lag is sooooooo much better than my previous tv. Please help me!

What picture settings have you been using?

If you've been in Dynamic mode or had the Contrast set really high, there is a small chance that it's burn.

Otherwise, it is probably just a bad case of image retention.

There is an image retention clearing "screen wipe" in the service menu that you can leave running for a long time to see if it helps clear it.

To access this, turn the TV on. Then, look at the side of the TV itself and find the down arrow button. Hold this button down on the Plasma, grab your remote, and rapidly tap the 0 button until the text "Start Adjustment Menu" appears on screen. Press the Red button on the remote.

Now you're in service mode so do exactly this and don't touch anything else:

Press the 1 button five times until you get to a white screen. Now press the 4 button a couple of times until you get toa screen with a white bar scrolling across it. This is the screen wipe. Leave it on overnight (or 24+ hours if the retention is particularly bad) and see if you get an improvement.

And to exit the screen wipe/service menu mode, just turn the TV power off and on again.

I use this all the time to clear f-----ng "BBC NEWS!!!!" on screen graphics off of new review samples before I return them.

I'm really disappointed to see the new Xbox 360 dashboard has giant white squares everywhere. I already have enough trouble with the current dashboard and IR.

They've had Aero for Windows since Vista, so where the hell is Aero for Xbox!?

                Mofos.

On big CRTs (36") the Earth's gravitational field affects geometry!

                      @ Lyris

Thanks for the reply buddy. I'm using the cinema setting and only ever had the contrast one click above halfway, is that too high for a plasma? brightness i always have lower than my contrast. I always thought it was really hard to burn in plasma's these days, like it would require you to have the same logo on the screen for hours and hours?

I will try the steps you suggested and i really hope it resolves this as it's so distracting seeing the retention on a pure white screen As long as i follow those steps you provided, i'm not gonna screw my set up am i?!

                      Thanks again man

No, those settings are fine. I've not seen an actually burned Plasma in half a decade, most likely it is just temporary image retention rather than permanent damage.

                          Hi Lyris.

Just a quick question re the Panasonic G10 please.

I used to have a 37' PX60 Panasonic Plasma nd about 1 year ago ugraded to a 50' G10 Panasonic Plasma.

Now, the PX60 suffered from a problem called 'purple snakes' (have you heard of it?) where the image had a purple glow to it.

Now, my G10 seems to have something similare but VERY hard to notice.

Te picture seems great but I only really notice this stuff on SD viewing.

Is my G10 at fault or is this something that Plasmas do.

Its really hard to notice but wondered if its more of a plasma thing than and my TV thing??

Thank you in advance for your reply

I remember the "purple snakes" yes. When do you notice the similar effect?

On poor SD images - freeview TV etc.

On games and Blu-Ray I find it hard to notice.

Basicaly, I am worried if its the TV tring to make the SD better (I have all processing options turned OFF) or if the TV has a fault.

There not purple on the G10 infact its more of a glow but in a good way! Very hard to explain. I just worndered if my TV is faulty as I have a 5 year John Lewis warranty.

Ah yes, 50hz posterisation. It's a common issue I'm afraid, and seems to affect 50hz images and over-compressed poor quality content most of all.

Meaning that UK digital TV signals are a prime candidate for showing it up.
