Evilboris - I'm curious, do you see any real notable difference between running games in 720p native and running them upscaled to 1080i? Dispite all the debates we've all read about this, there's so little difference to my eyes running them upscaled that I just leave the machine in 1080i.
The Bravia S does have great 1080i handling mind, as proven when running 1080 PS3 games, but I'd assume the WLT68 is on par.
There's minor tearing on Lost Planet at 1080i here, but we're not taking typical Ubisoft standards by any means. What I will say is though the difference isn't huge by any stretch of the imagination, 1080i appears sharper than 720p on the Bravia S (I noticed the same on the LX2R as well). I think this is due to the fact that both televisions much prefer downscaling as they do up. Take a look at the text on the 360's dashboard to see what I mean.

Does anyone know how to get a Bravia S series to auto-switch to component when you switch on a device that's connected to that input? I had to disable a few inputs via the menu because it took such a long time to get to component.

I wouldn't mind knowing the answer myself. Whenever I switch the television off and switch it on again, it automatically defaults to Digital or Analogue TV channels.

You know you can just press enter and then scrol to the input you want to use, it is much quicker than cycling through sources.

I do that, it's still annoying though. Every other television stays on the same source. Considering the PC is on 24/7 and I'm not always in the room it means I have to be remote ready. The horror. :P

Disabling the inputs that come before component makes it even quicker than that but I'd still prefer it to be automatic.

I don't think it is common practive for autodetecting component in tvs, I think it is limited to RGB scart and HDMI.

My Toshiba remembers it's last input setting, which is always component. Then I just change the input on my amp to go between Wii and 360. Only time I ever have to change it is to watch Freeview, which is about once a week at most. Once I get a Vista PC I'll just stick a dual TV tuner in that and use media center extender, then I'll never leave the warm comfort of component.

Funny thing is I was so anal about getting a TV with dual HDMI inputs, and I no longer own a single HDMI device (other than my amp, but I have no need for HDMI on it). Well, future proofing I guess.

After a month here are what I consider the perfect settings for the Toshiba WLT68. As it is, I use the built-in TV tuner for Freeview plus Component for the 360 & HD DVD's using the add-on (used to use VGA). I will soon be getting the Toshiba XE1 HD DVD player over HDMI, and maybe put my new laptop into the VGA port (but I'll probably put the 360 through that when I've sold my HD Drive) so the settings may change in the future. Also bear in mind that I am in a usually quite dark room, and we sit quite close to the TV so the light is way down. Here we go:

                        PICTURE SETTINGS
                        Back Light: 5
                        Contrast: 100
                        Brightness: 65
                        Colour: 50
                        Tint: 0
                        Sharpness: -50
                        Black Stretch: OFF
                        NPEG NR: OFF
                        DNR: OFF
                        Colour Temp: Normal

                        Colour management: On
(all settings to 0 except the following)
                        Red: sat -5
                        Green: sat -1
                        Blue: sat -7

                        Active Backlight: OFF
                        Cinema Mode: ON
                        Active Vision M100: ON

Hope this helps people, also I'd be interested in what people think of these settings. Does anybody know what (under function) PANEL LOCK & SIDE PANEL do? Cheers!

Panel lock disables all the buttons on the side of the TV.
Side panel lets you change the colour of the black bars down the side of 4:3 content.

I'm still loving my Tv, its even more awesome since I got the Sub for it.

Just got my Sony KDFE42A12U Bravia and going from a 28inch Sony to this is amazing the quality is better than any flatscreen I have seen in person.
Just have to get the settings the way I like them (here comes 3 months of playing!)

Anyone got any views on these two from Pc World?
Know they're fairly cheap and cheerful and the contrast ration isn't great but any reports game, dvd wise?

After seeing lots of positive comments and reviews about the Sony KDL-40W2000 I'm sorely tempted to buy one. I'm quite anal and even though I might not see much difference going from 720P to 1080P for HD DVDs and Blu Ray, it nags at me that there's a higher resolution out there that I could be taking advantage of

Anyway, best price I've seen at the moment is around ?1,400. Is it likely to drop much lower than that soon or is there likely to be a long wait before the price comes down a bit? I did see a Sharp 1080P LCD for just over ?1,000 but it lacks a component input and I don't think it can do 1,920 x 1,080 over VGA. From what I've read the Sony is way out in front picture quality wise anyway.
