The Sharps are 1080p over HDMI only (for the European models at least) and they're horrible. (awful viewing angles, greyscale, colour reproduction, motion handling, gamma) They do have great black levels though, but that's the only nice thing I can say about them.

Hope this helps people, also I'd be interested in what people think of these settings.
I go between 75 with the lights on/daylight, to 20 with the lights off.

Gah, does anyone know how the Samsung LE40F71BX compares to the Sony KDL-40W2000? I was pretty much going to go for the Sony (when I can summon up the courage to spend that much money!) but I've now seen the Samsung available for over £200 cheaper than the Sony, and I think they both use the same LCD panel, and the Samsung officially does 1920*1080 over VGA. Is the Sony really worth the extra? Any opinions?

Any Samsung owners correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think DNIe can be disabled. The Sony 40W on the other hand can be set up to have a very un-tampered with picture.
The Samsung apparently does 1080p over Component though which is a nice touch for 360 owners...

You're right Kotatsu, it's identical - if the TV detects the 3-2 pulldown pattern properly. The Sony W2000s don't lock onto the cadence propelry so if you look up close, you can see small jagged artefacts sometimes. The Samsungs are probably the same.
Since the chipset manufacturers and TV makers can't get this sort of thing right, feeding these TVs with 1080p is the best idea to avoid things going wrong and give the screen as few chances as possible to screw up.
