Yeah, while still not high-end sets, they're good value, and I'd probably pick one of the new Samsungs over a BRAVIA these days, if I was considering one. (I still don't like the wide colour gamut tech they both use though)

Right now I still prefer Toshiba's colour reproduction and image processing though.

Apparently, that seems to be the 1080P set at the moment with the least problems/ defective sets. The Sharp 1080P panels have some banding issues that were much publicised, and similarly Sony had the clouding issues on their sets. This is about a month or so old info, so things may have changed dramatically since then.

Having said that, I'd have more cause for concern at the retailer, as I've heard some pretty nasty horror stories about them (failing to refund, wrong item delivered, poor comms etc.)

Overclockers are great when all is right, very speedy (always next day in my experience) and always excellent prices, but certainly when you have a problem, they make things as difficult as can be. I cancelled a preorder with them the other day, and they expected me to explain to them why I wanted to cancel - none of their business, it's my right, says in their own small print.
They also charge when you order, not on dispatch.

They have been THE place to get the best deals on PC monitors though.

Unless you get one that's cosmetically damaged and has a buzzing backlight, in which case they'll talk over you on the phone, hang up on you, claim you caused the damage yourself, and then charge you a restocking fee so they can re-sell the faulty monitor. True story, I always go to Chillblast or KustomPCs now.

A word about Overclockers - apparently one of the owners of the company posted some far right neo nazi type racist links on the overclockers forums a while back. When challenged he refused to retract his views and defended the sites.

Since that event many people have been boycotting Overclockers.

              ^^^This is correct.
Overcockers (the anti-OCUK) forum is no longer running, but there were some "interesting" tales from ex-employees there too.
I used to buy from them a lot but ditched them a couple of years back.

That's pretty damn shocking, though it does explain a few things.

Does make it easier to pay the few quid more and shop elsewhere though.

                      Hey,

I am on the road again soon, and will be moving from the USA to Australia for 12months. I dont particuarly want to sell my tv, dvd player and consoles. Does anyone know if i will have any issues with taking the following over there?

                      Samsung - LN-S3251D (AC110v-120v 60Hz, 165W)
                      XBOX360 - NTSC
                      Wii - NTSC

Can I buy a step down convertor over there for them?
Will it be easy enough to pick up the powerpacks for the 360 and Wii?
Will i be able to use the TV for watching their broadcasts - I assuming if I get their Sat/Cable package and just use the component out, it wont make a difference?

                      Comment

You'll need a stepdown transformer for the TV and yep, power packs for the consoles. Your American TV is unlikely to accept the 50hz-based video signal, even over the Video inputs, so you might find that it's better to sell the TV (or test it with a Digital Camera's TV-output) to see if your TV plays nicely with PAL signals.

American TVs generally only work with NTSC and 60hz video, but in the PAL territories, almost every TV works both ways.

Rossman, How much do you want to spend? Most likely youll be pointed in the direction of
                          Sony and Toshiba's latest offerings.

                            hello

Ive decided i definitely want a 26 inch tv, no bigger. Ive looked at toshiba, sony and panasonic and the panasonic seems to win

although at the bottom of that review it states there is a 1080p samsung on the way, and also there is a tx26lxd700 coming out which may be worth holding on for. The big brother is here...

                            nice!

                            any ideas!!

                            Comment

I think Samsung have a 32" 1080p screen coming eventually, but I've not heard anything about a 26" 1080p one.

There is absolutely no point whatsoever in a 26" 1080p television though, unless you plan on using it as a monitor - you would have to be sitting about 2-3ft from the TV.

The Panasonic is probably the best 26" screen on the market right now, from the look of it. Are you sure they're doing a 26" 700 model though? Most companies are only doing their better models from 32" and up, with many only starting in the 37-40" range now.

Seems awfully expensive for that kind of size though.

                              Comment

If you only want 26" don't even think about 1080p, unless you're planning on sitting *right* in front of the screen as you would a PC monitor. At a normal viewing distance 720p looks absolutely identical to 1080p at anything less than 40" in my opinion. Even on my 42" LCD 1080p looks only slightly better than 720p.

You should be more concerned with the TV's black levels, how many component and HDMI inputs it has, if it has back light and image processing control (the latter you want to turn off completely), and if it fits your budget. Way, way, way below all of that comes 1080p.
