I love my W Series because of that hehehe

The W series seems a hell of a lot cheaper are you paying for the style with the x series, The X does look classier but is there are real technical difference.

tbh 1008p over VGA would be reason enough for me to get the W, given I use my screen on a PC too.

What TVs have you been using? The progressive conversion is absolutely flawless on my 42" 1080i Toshiba.

Yeah I know about that one, but was it 60fps? If it wasn't, then it will convert to progressive with no artefacts.

And it must be said, the interlace artefacts on a 1080 line display as so negligible I challenge anyone sitting at a normal viewing distance to ever see them.

Good to hear. The Sony KDL-32V2000, KDL-40W2000, and also Toshiba's latest C-Series (a budget one, I know, but has better deinterlacing than most) all failed.

Jay posted this in another topic, I felt it useful, a small list of TV's that can do 1:1 native res over either VGA or HDMI.

almost all 1080p screens offer an exact scan mode now, it's becoming less and less of an issue. Hopefully they will start paying attention to VGA users next

So I bought and took delivery of the panasonic tx-26lxd70. Its so nice. Dreamcast through vga, 8500:1 contrast and is nicely designed (simple and matte black)

I snagged it for 589 from sound and vision online (whom id recommend, ordered on sunday arrived today (free delivery) and that was on a bank hoilday) but they seem to have put their prices up by 50 quid ish.

Thanks for peoples advice it was really handy, and thanks lyris for your quick and dirty lcd setup on your site. It made a big big difference

I'm looking for a new HD tv - What are the best sets at handling SD?

                      Sony, Toshiba wlt68 or Panasonic LDX700 ?

                      thanks for any replies

The Sony and Toshibas are very close but in my experience (I've owned both) the WLT68 handled fast motion deinterlacing better.

I think they are all very close in picture quality, loads of people here have the WLT68 and are more than happy with it.

well, i have the 26inch lxd70 and my sd freeview looks superb. I was a bit worried that it would be a significant downgrade from my crt but I am more than happy with it. Nice clean colours, no blur that i can see and good black levels.

                          Hope that helps

I've never used the WLT68s but the Toshiba C-Series I reviewed wiped the floor with my KDL-40W2000 in the deinterlacing department (I reviewed it at DVD Times). It had much better jaggy-smoothing and processed interlaced PAL Film properly, none of the Sonys have matched that yet.

The Sony/Samsung S-PVA panel still wins me over in the end, though.

Toshiba: Best (most natural) colour reproduction once calibrated, best image processing. (SD handling) Great motion handling if you get a WLT68. (the others do not have 100/120Hz)

Sony: Best viewing angles, best black levels. Can produce very vivid images, but the colour is unnatural. (in my opinion) Image processing tends to leave images looking a little soft, even HD.

Panasonic is in-between the two for everything really, though it has a lot less picture adjustments you can make in its menus. Motion handling is better than everything but the WLT68 Toshibas.

I think the Toshiba WLT68's go for a lower price than competing screens, and everyone here loves them, sound like a good deal.

If your intending to use the screen for PC as well, the Bravia's support for 1360x768 over VGA is worth considering, it's what swayed my decision.
