If I had no interest in HD, I'd probably be looking for a nice big CRT tbh.

Agreed gIzzE,
The Panasonic sales man was not able to show him a 'normal' TV picture in a local shop only DVD. Which he put down to poor salesman, I personally thought it's more likely it would have looked terrible and scuppered the potential sale completely.
Why 1080p may just be because I only have 720p, in a kind of Spinal Tap up to 11 way
Thanks for the reply.
Anyone have experience with 42' Plasmas and freeview signals? comments appreciated.

Anyone here got a Sony Bravia KDL-32D3000 ? If so, have you tried older non-HD stuff on it, eg., PS1/PS2/Dreamcast etc..? Are there any problems with response times with this TV? Also, what's the picture quality like?
I'm very tempted to pick one of these LCDs up, but need to know this info.

Im about to upgrade my 42" panasonic plasma (px70B if i remember right) now im well happy with the hd picture (be it 720P) and im upgrading to a 50" plasma (panny again) I sit 14 foot from telly and need something bigger, ive got my eye on the 50" version of what ive already got which weighs in at ?900 incl wall bracket, BUt my dilema is do i go for the 1080P set which is available around ?1400? we still watch a lot of sd stuff which my wife does comment on that some channels look blocky to her, as im well happy with my ps3 and xbox360 via 720p, and hd and blu ray movies. im thinking as im happy with the piccy ive got spend the money on upgrading my amp and speakers as im not happy with this? wise choice or should i go for 1080p?

The lower-end Sonys are the G,U,P, and S. Oh, and coming soon, B. Confusingly, the Vs are now the cheapest 1080p ones.
They are going to need to make a new alphabet soon. And it'll probably be incompatible with everyone else's alphabet.Last edited by Lyris; 03-01-2008, 18:17.

On the subject of Sonys, I'm looking to upgrade from an old LG panel to a Sony in the 37-40-inch range. I was previously looking at the 40D3000 but since that seems to have been discontinued I'm a little lost.
Things that are important to me:
- fast upscaling/deinterlacing from old consoles (PS2 through component mainly)
- not-messed-wth and fast VGA input for the 360; our LG 26LX2R just throws out whatever comes in, which looks great but inexplicably still has a little more input lag than the LCD monitor the 360 is also connected to
- blacks. Oooooh blacks. The LG really fails here.
- just a nice panel in general
Things that I'm not that bothered about:
- freeview quality; we currently have a cheapo freeview box connected via composite which is fine for the amount of TV we watch
- 100hz, special film modes, or anything designed to make broadcast TV and films look extra awesome. Most DVDs are played on our 360 anyway, through VGA
- 1080p. If I can't get a good panel at 40 inches without it, then I'll get it and pay extra, but since our main use is gaming on 360, PS2, Wii and maybe someday PS3, 1080p is really a luxury we won't use
Short question after all that: will I be happy with one of the cheaper Sony panels (like the 37P3020) or do they have reduced-quality screens to go with their reduced feature set? I'm happy to go to the ?900 mark and something like the 40D3500 if that's what it takes to get the best picture out of 720p consoles, but obviously if I can pay less, I'd like to!
I've latched onto Sony because, as I understand it, Sony/Samsung panels are the most similar to the P-MVA panel in my monitor, which I think is lovely and would play all my games on if it were 4 times the size and had HDMI ports.

I'd imagine so now, yes.

If you're planning to use it as a monitor, check out the Samsung TVs as well.
