Can anyone guide me on how exactly to use the magic tool? I had a look at the video but I can't really work it out. How much force exactly does it take to pull the tray out? And where should I insert the tool in the first place?

I would advise ditching the tool in favour of a flip top lid, as the tool messes up the disc tray motor.

Yeah I think I'll order a flip top, but I'd like to play Shadow of the Colossus tonight as I just got it.

Have you removed the front cover of the disk tray? If so then the video you download here:

looks useful. I have a flip top so I have never used my slide tool. I now have a hard disk (plugged into the Network Adaptor) and HDAdvance 3 though (because of dual layer disks) though some games don't work with the HD so I can still resort to Swap Magic.

Just wondering what my options are for imports on my current v3 UK PAL PS2. There doesn't seem to be a flip top lid available and I don't think I want to install a modchip, so is my only option the slide tool?

I may pick up a US PS2 soon, but want to play Shadow of the Colossus now!

The only drawback with Swap Magic is the non-compatibility with DVD 9 games (GT4, God of War and some Japanese Train Simulators plus I believe GTA: SA).

Do you have a Netword Adaptor?

For anyone with V4-7 or V9:

I have no idea why you can't get an 8 hole flip top and modify it for a 10 screw PS2. You may be able to get away with not fitting the last two screws. I would not have expected there to be much difference to the internals between the versions as far as the actual plastic of the case is concerned.

You could try importing a 10 hole flip top from America, but that could prove expensive.

I could always take a picture of the inside of my original 8 hole lid so you could see whether an 8 hole would do.

Thanks Bassman, I already have a v4 to v8 flip top and it doesnt fit, there's an extra piece of panel on the back which isn't on the v3. I could probably modify it, which I'll try if I can't find a better solution.

Unfortunately, that's for the new slimline PS2.

I must agree with Balou. If there's only a couple of import titles you want to play Swap magic is ace. If you want to play a lot disk swapping is a right chore. Bottom line: get it chipped.

Well, I managed to fashion a slide tool out of a piece of cardboard which has done the trick and allowed me to play Shadow of the Colossus (with Swap Magic). I suspect that I will chip it, but for the moment, this will do me.

Does anyone know if Xenosaga or Dragon Warrior VIII will be DVD9?
