Does Tales of Symphonia start off slowly and then get much better?

I'm currently playing Tales of Symphonia on the NGC. I'm about 10 hours in and am somewhat bored. Does the game get much better later on or would I be better throwing in the towel now?

ToS is one of my favourite RPG's this generation. I found it a joy to play throughout.

If you're not enjoying it after 10 hours I'm not going to tell you it improves massively, but things do pick up pace after a certain event. What is it about the game you dont enjoy btw?

Aren't you describing 99.9% of all modern RPG's, where they last an eternity for no reason what so ever.

It's just pretty unspectacular. It doesn't seem to do anything badly but I can't say it does anything that well.

It starts off being very average and clich? to start with, but it all kicks off about 15-20 hours in. I'm not a fan of RPG's but its one of my fave games this gen

Found the same thing myself and gave up. Playing Baten Kaitos (again after my first copy was stolen ft: ) and I find that a much better game.

Wasn't too keen on Baten Kaitos myself either.

ToS starts dull, gets better... can't put it any better really.

Yeah a lot of people who I know didn't like it either - you must all be crazy!

I find I haven't got the time or patience any more to persevere with games - if the first hour or so doesn't entice me then I don't bother with them.

Agree entirely, I never finish long games.

Tales is indeed a massive game. I enjoyed it near the end. Took me like, 6 months in order to get past the first half of the game, due to boredom. The dungeons can get irritating, but the story gets rather good!

Baten Kaitos was crap, imo. lovely visuals and battle system, boring story and TERRIBLE voiceovers, possibly the worst ever for their awful recording quality.

I loved Tales! My favorite RPG for a long time, and one of my favorite games of this gen.

Depending on how cynical you are, the storyline can either be a cheesefest of cliches, or inspiring and epic. I loved the combat system especially, it was a lot more tactical than just slashing and stuff once you got into the game where the enemies/bosses had higher HP values. The one part that pissed me off is where you have to guide that ****ing bastard fish to the fruit, though. ARGH!

Like everyone says, it does pick up somewhat after the first few hours, but if you're 10 hours in and not 'feeling it' then you probably won't get much out of it.

I think I cracked it after 55 hours, and that was doing all the sidequests, too. Then I went straight into Paper Mario, then after that Skies of Arcadia. I really want to get Baten Kaitos, but I can't bring myself to play through another big RPG just yet.

I played about 30 hours and then through in the towel. It's not 60-80 hours of A-Grade storyline and gameplay, it's more like 40 hours of filler with a 20 hour story (yes, I know I haven't finished it).

I can't say I really enjoyed it. In places, it was inventive and the story held it's own, but the battle system... argh, stupid AI for the lose.

Yes more and more games (not only RPG's) seem to simply be extended out with filler to be made longer so that people don't complain that they completed it in a few days. Personally I'd much rather a shorter but more intense experience ie cut out the filler.
