Think I'm going with horizontal too. More concerned about heat issues than disc scratching (but will play a couple of freebie dvd's before playing any games just to check).

That stand looks really tacky - does it actually have a fan built into it or is it just a cheap bit of plastic with a few airholes cut into it? If it's the latter 20 bucks seems pretty steep when a couple of cd boxes will do the trick just as well if not better.

Has anyone really heard major things about when horizontal scratching stuff?
I just can't see how that's possible, as I said before it's just a PC drive essentially!?! I would have thought there was more chance of that happened when vertical?!

I can't believe it makes any difference either way tbh, my original xbox scratch my disks to buggery while horizantal though, maybe I should of balanced it on its end

I will be going for vertical because it looks better and I have a pefect space for it next to my tv!

If either of those problems are present in all units then the thing should go straight back on a recall. Shouldn't have to work around it!

Thats exactly how I had my PS2 for years! I then changed it to horizontal and to this day all my discs are perfect!

I think it's was a very isolated incident with the original machine tbh.

Regarding it happening on the 360 I've seen one pic of the back of a back of a disc, where you had to look really hard to seen anything - not that that only seeing the back it could have been any old disc I guess?!

I've got mine verticle and it's run fine with no disc scratching or crashing.

                    6 hrs solid play too

Here's at tip: don't try and change the orientation while the thing is running with a disc inside. That's just asking for trouble.
