    Heat issues

So was playing my 360 for about one hour this evening and my brother comes in and says "whats cooking?" And I said nothing, probably just PGR3, but then he was serious and said he smelt something burning. So I go check the 360, and it was proper hot.

Its placed inside a cabinet, and a little ventilation from the rear, but decided to move it by itself on the floor beside the cabinet (will post pics later in the other topic).

The thing that made me move it was as soon as I came a close to the cabinet (when it was inside it) I could feel hot air around 50cm away from where the 360 was, so was worried something might happen.

So, anyone else had any heat problems, and where do you place your 360?

After an hours play, the fan switched off after about 5-10 seconds after I shutdown the system, although I can understand the need for it to go on to cool the system down.

Funny you've posted this now, as I've just come on the net to find out about over heating.

Had my 360 set up in my TV stand since last friday in the main room, and had no problems at all. Tonight I moved the machine upstares and have been playing it upright for about 3 hours, and coming out of a game of PDZ the system froze and when I reboot it just comes up with a flashing red ring of light

Not had any overheating problems till now, think it must be because the system was quite close to a wall with not room for air to circulate, still worrying all the same

Simmy, did you smell a scent of wires burning or something similar?
And Red Ring of Light = Blue Screen of Death right? Sorry to hear about that

mine gets very hot when playing pgr3 as well. i can actually feel the heat coming off a few feet away. should mention that the console is also very loud which is the most annoying thing. havent had any problems yet though and no crashing.

Nothing to do with overheating evidently http://support.microsoft.com/default...906652&sd=xbox

I've refitted the RGB cable now and after a couple of attempts it rebooting correctly. Funny thing is I swear I had three red lights in the ring not four.

It's back in the TV rack horizantally down stairs now, and won't be moved again, as its seems to be a fragile little thing !

Just give it enough room to breathe for crying out loud! stuck in a cabinet? come on,seriously it's not that hard to figure out the 360 is'nt gonna enjoy being stuck in one of those.

It was in the space with nothing in it. Didnt think it would be too big a problem, now have to have it standing on the floor

But I thought they were supposed to be at the centre of your next-generation entertainment experience.

                        I'd say,way left of centre,just to ensure it does'nt blow up. 8)

The manual tells you not to put it in a shelf in an enclosed space. Your best bet is to have it out in the open giving it plenty of ventilation and of course not on a carpet! Ive had mine on for 9hours today straight and the unit is very cool still (its on a shelf out in the open with the power supply away from it for ventilation as well).

Nothing else seems to mind. Even Marcus' cat!

Well, both my 360 and the PSU are on a desk. Large amount of space around both, plenty of breathing room, and neither of them have really even got warm, dispite hours of use in a rather hot room.

Treat the 360 like a PC instead of a games console... it really does need room to breathe.
