Well we'll never be able to abuse them like the SNES, but the 360 has taken it to an extreme. OEMs are definitely more sensitive to the growing demand for quieter computing, as are many hobbyist builders. That's more a sign of the times than the 360 or G5 PowerMac (another big-endian howler pushing the scaleable limits of the IBM PPC).

Well, I hope it's a software issue.
Got my unit yesterday, both the console and the PSU are only slightly warm to the touch. I decided to leave it on overnight (on the dashboard) as a little test of stability. When I checked it in the morning it had crashed and the screen was full of garbled colour. Nice.

I think designing a console like the 360 for under 300 notes and having it run silent would be a serious design challenge.

For all those with machines that are freezing, are they freezing when playing a downloaded demo, or just mucking about on the dash?!
My mate gets freezes in PDZ and "dirty disc errors" on PGR - so maybe its a disc drive problem?

No, i haven't had a freeze when in the dash or while playing a downloaded demo.
So far i've only had a screen freeze when i'm actually playing a game. I've got 5 games and all of them have froze at least once. For me PGR3 is by far the worse, at least 10 freezes so far, happened while i was playing on Live and when i was just time trialling as well. Even happened once when the PGR3 title screen appeared.
