you said your internet connection was 2megabit max, and you need to lower the wifi transfer speed to 2mbit too, so you wouldn't be losing out on any internet speed.

True... May order a new netgear router, then!

What i've done (and it depends if you router can) is setup my online devices (DS, PS2) on a DMZ with a static address. That way i avoid firewall and port blocking issues.

my ds and xbox are static too, the ds needs to be for the stupid ping flood stuff, but I use mac based filtering and 128bit wep (meh it'll do) for the wifi, and the rest of the network is firewalled anyway so

I basically don't want to compromise internet speed just to play wifi!
The only thing I needed to do was to change security from PSK to WEP, no other changes made.

Tried to connect my DS to my Netgear DG834G modem/ router last night but with no luck.

I'm following the 'Gameplay At Home - Quick Set Up' bit of the instruction booklet. I've chosen to use 'connection 1' and then 'Search for an access point'. I was expecting to see my router/ network listed with a red padlock beside it as it's WEP protected. However, I'm getting the message 'No Access Point in range......' etc. My 360 wireless adapter, notebook etc. find the network no probs though & it's set to display the SSID & 802.11b (&g) are enabled.

Anybody with the same router get this message or know how to get round it? I'm not very clued up on wireless networking so may be missing something obvious....

              Thanks guys!

I bought that router the other day. Connected no prob, didnt even have to enter the settings into the DS. Animal Crossing for me now! Thanks for the rec's.

How far are you away from the router tom-nook? The other devices probably have much better wireless cards than the DS.

Looking at some of the earlier posts the DS usually seems to work with this router with no messing about. I wasn't sure about the DS' wireless range so have been using it within a few feet of the router (even tried putting it right next to it!) but it makes no difference whatsoever. It's very strange as my 360 / notebook always finds the router 1st time every time but it's like it's completely invisible to the DS. I also tried going into the manual settings on the DS and entering my WEP & SSID details but still no joy.

I know the PSP has a switch to enable/ disable wifi but as far as I know there's nothing like this on the DS so I'm stumped. I'm starting to think that it might be a fault with my DS.

You might need to update the firmware on the router, my mate had too with that model (recent purchase as well).

                      Thanks Ginger Tosser!

Just download the latest firmware and applied it. The Ds found the connection straight away & works perfectly now

i'm still stuck connecting my DS to my Netgear WGR614 v6, I get a message saying, it has found my access point but cannot connect.. i've checked my settings until i'm blue in the face, the only way I can connect is by disabling my WEP key and enabling SSID broadcast, the DS will then connect using the auto connect feature, which is fine, but i want to be secure.. any ideas?..

have you got mac based filtering? if so just add the DS's mac. and leave wep off I guess

hardly the best solution, but you'll have the protection of only people in the mac address list being able to connect, remember to password your router though

                          hardly ideal i know

yeah i've got mac based filtering, i've added my all my devices already, just not enabled it. I'll give a whirl tonight, thanks

on the password note, i'm assuming you mean the password i've set to enable me to log onto my router setup page via a web browser?

*** Update, i'm now online, albeit with only mac address filtering as my security measures, but i'm online none the less.. woo hoo!! ***

                              Hi,

My son wants to be able to connect his laptop wirelessly and play MKDS online. Which router should I buy for him? Any recommendations? I'm using a BT Voyager 2091 at my place, which works a treat, but I'm not sure if it can only be used with BT as your ISP? Has anyone tried a BT Voyager 2100?

                              Cheers for any help.

                              Jay
