Love of VGA aside, are you sure you've got it hooked up to an RGB enabled socket on your TV?

Maybe see if the picture is better when you set your TV to a 4:3 picture size (most DC games don't have a widescreen option).

It should be a lot better than you make it sound at the moment.

To be fair, once you see the Dreamcast running through VGA, it raises the bar somewhat and there's no going back. Even Component 480p doesn't compare, so it's no suprise RGB Scart doesn't fair very well either.

Tried that before and its still awful - its doesnt matter what output i use, s video, composite and rf the same result happens and the pciture quality varies very little.

I used to have a DC VGA box and tried running several games through a 19" Mitsubishi CRT including Guilty Gear X. The game actually looked worse than on TV since jaggies on the sprites became visible, whereas my TV produced a picture that was just as good but without any visible jaggies.
Yes and no. With 2d fighters with the exception of GG, tehy are all low res and so dont look so hot in vga mode, although the backgrounds do. Im surprised about GG, since it looks great on my whopping 15" crt.

VGA sucks if you run it through a tft with a very high resolution and fast response time. 2D fighters became unbearable and even high res games looked soft and suffered "ghosting"

The Neo Geo RGB is pretty bad really, people go as far as to replace the whole video encoder to get a good RGB, you can tell if you compare it to RGB from a Neo CD system, which is right up there.

I thought that partly depended on how high the serial number is. I swear down, ive never seen an image so sharp on my tv.

Apparently so, though really the difference is negligible.

I agree with the comments about the DC's RGB output. It has the sharpest most vibrant colours of all old/new gen RGB pictures. The XBOX RGB on the other hand is shockingly bad. Although through component/Pscan it is much much sharper.
