Yeah, that's what I'd recommend if you can't buy a 'proper' HDTV.

Anyway, I didn't have much experience with the original Xbox, but the 360 really is great. LIVE isn't half bad either

I'd need a VGA box for that though right?

Generally you won't need anything besides a 360 VGA lead. Just buy the monitor and we'll be able to help further

Frankly I hate Microsoft with a passion, I wish a big meteor would hit Redmond wiping them out... When they're all at home of course, no loss of life.

But I'm really, really having a good time with my 360. It's shooter, racer, and Western RPG(Well, Oblivion) heaven. It's really rather good. Geometry Wars may be worth the price of the console itself.

Very recommended, much better than the original XBox in every way.

                Nay! NAY! NAY!!!

I was looking at the 360 section in a store on saturday and the best thing on the shelf was invasion of the body snatchers on dvd (misplaced of course but still). If you like War 'em Up 1939 then yeah go for it, but I find the game selection a bit too US-biased (not without reason of course, being a US console).

I was playing Burnout revenge on my WS telly the other day and I was hard pressed to notice much difference from the XBox version. Naturally an HDTV would change that, so if you're going that route then you'll have a blast, otherwise give it a lot of thought before taking the plunge.

XB Live arcade has promise (not least once SF arrives) and the whole constant connectedness is intriguing, as is downloading demos to your hard drive.

Also, the pad is sublime, of course!

Having said all that, though, you've mentioned there are 7 games that you want (hopefully the list doesn't include Fifa Street 2) and to me, that constitutes enough to warrant buying the 360, so now I lean towards Yay

Try and borrow one if you can, and get a feel for it, rather than going by what you play at a mate's house or worse still, in a store (even though the store 360's are on LCDs). I hated the 360 until I actually borrowed one from work and then I couldn't bear to part with it, but since then I've packed it away in it's box waiting for a reason, but that's not the fault of the 360 itself, rather the fact that I'm going off gaming on the whole (hence my recent crazy megadrive impulse-buy!)

What's the chance of a price cut after e3 or bigger HDD in premium pack/bundles etc

Probably not soon after E3. More likely in the run up to, on or shortly after the PS3's release.

Hells no! The games I want are:

                      Call of Duty 2
                      Dead or Alive 4
                      Kameo
                      Far Cry Instincts Predator
                      Ridge Racer 6
                      Project Gotham Racing 3
                      Elder Scrolls Oblivion
                      Amped 3

That's 8 that are out now, and there are a fair few upcoming, like Test Drive and Tomb Raider.

I've been looking around at 360s and 360 games and I've come up withy a list of 7 games I want (that are out now), and there are others that are upcoming as well. Is it worth getting one? And what is the Live like?

                          Thanks
Go try one in the shops or round at your friends house - then buy...

I'd love to mate, but I have no cash.

If you'd hold it for about 4 or 5 months then sure
