The PAL 'conversion' is non-existent afaik, in that 60Hz is offered so no optimisation was attempted.

There is one pernickerty jump that you have to perform at only one point of the game, and is just as pernickerty in all regions.

        What. the. ****?

PAL conversion maybe **** but WHO CARES!

PAL version of Ico has a selectable 50Hz(PAL colour) or 60Hz(NTSC colour with the PS2). SO if you own a RGB cable AND a television that isn't a hundred years old, you will be able to play Ico in it's best incarnation.

        So PAL version FTW!

PAL version came out later and they supposedly fixed some AI bugs with Yorda that were present in the US version.
Also it comes in the nice collector's edition with the cardboard cover and the cards.

            That'd make sense, i'm using 3.6

I assumed it was standard across all versions.

The PAL colour system actually makes a huge difference with ICO, in my opinion.

It's akin to the PAL mode in Silent Hill 3, in that you can really see an increase in colour quality (compared to most games providing NTSC 60hz).

Really? Is that the Platinum version? I have the original cardboard box version and it doesn't have a 60Hz option.

Mine does (an option screen comes up before you have a save).

Is this like a one-time thing when you start a new game? I just loaded it up to check and couldn't find it.

                      Mine does too.

Try starting it without your memory card in. You'll be pleasantly suprised.

Could you pass the salt? This humble pie is a bit bland >_<

Seriously though - I can't believe I played through the game umpteen times without realising this.

The PAL colour system is only relevent if you are using a composite or RF cable. If you are using an RGB lead or component the colour palette is directly feeded (with RGB being better than YPbPr) from the hardware.

Use a proper cable (which i'm sure you are concept ) and the PAL/NTSC colour palette is a non-issue.

The colour will be identical in either 50 or 60Hz mode.

I'm using RGB Scart on the PS2 (and it is RGB as its official) and I can notice a definite difference in both ICO and Silent Hill 3.

I played through the PAL version of the game on my US PS2 and it works flawlessly.
