    SNES universal converter problems...

    Hi everyone,

I've been having trouble with my UK PAL Super Nintendo and the universal game converter I'm using with it. The converter is supposed to allow me to play US and Japanese games on my UK SNES, but it's only working half of the time. It plays Zelda: A Link to the Past and NBA Jam alright, but when I try using Super Mario World/Super Mario All Stars or Super Metroid, I receive a message saying something to the effect of 'This game pak is not designed for your Super Famicom/Super Nintendo'.
If it makes any difference, the games that do play were made in Mexico, while the games that don't play are made in Japan. The game converter itself doesn't have a brand name.
This is my first time posting, so I hope I've made sense. Any help or advice would be most appreciated Any ideas why these games wouldn't be playing or anything I can do to get them to work? Thank you.

Do you have to insert both an import game & a PAL game into the convertor at the same time?

If you do then it might be worth inserting a different PAL game and see if that helps. I know that with the N64 Passport convertor some 'native' games work better than others. Might be something similar.

I seem to remember way back when that Mario Kart gave the most success.

Thanks for your replies. Yeah, it's the type of converter where it needs a PAL game inserted as well. I'll try another game and see what happens. Thanks again

With those types of convertors it's always best to go for the newest first party game that you have since they usually have the most recent region coding. That was the way it always worked with my N64 when I used my Passport III on it.

Thanks Necofever. I'll try out your advice as soon as I can get ahold of another PAL SNES game. Thanks again everyone.

IMO the best converter you can get is the pro action replay 2. Plays absolutely everything I've thrown at it bar the obvious, i.e., mario rpg. The 3rd version is even better (will act as a bridge for a modded mario rpg cart which the 2nd version won't) , but much harder to find, and not better enough to warrant the extra money you'll pay.

Thanks, Markpsych. That sounds like a great option. I'll try to find one and give it a go.

They both have a speed check.

Also: Mario Allstars functions incorrectly at the wrong speed.

                  Fit a switch, it's easier.

A lot of nintendo first party games had better security than others when it came to multi region. While something like nba jam and zelda (early release) may work fine, games like mario all stars and metroid came later in the snes life cycle and had upgraded security.
I get the same problem when trying to play certain pal titles on my us snes using a converter.

All Mario games glitch at the wrong speed.

As Vertigo said, have a switch installed and the region lockout disabled.

Thanks again for the advice everyone. I apologize if this sounds ignorant, but what does having a switch installed mean? Any suggestions where I could have this done and for how much? Same questions again for having the region lockout disabled. Is this a more effective idea than the pro action replay 2 method? All of your help is much appreciated.
