Just about to get a Gamecube, what games MUST i own?

Don't worry freeloader will work. I've had the same GC (pearl white bundled with mario football) since last november and Freeloader version 1.06B works fine with the cube, not once had a problem with any game!

Interesting... some people have reported Freeloader not being recognised as a disc inserted on the Pearl Cube.

Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime: Echoes are absolutely essential - gaming doesn't get any better. Other titles you should pick up:

Luigi's Mansion
Mario Sunshine
Resi 4
Wind Waker
Paper Mario - Thousand Year Door

Also really enjoyed Rebel Strike, though I know quite a few despise it.

If you havn't done Zelda: OoT try get the zelda collectors edition from ebay, it has OoT MM and Zelda 1 & 2 from the NES.

I can vouch for metroid 1, F-zero and Zelda, as I've just brought a GC myself.. Metroid is getting the most play at the moment, although I seem to be whipping through large chunks of it in one go (including scanning just about everthing).. Any comments on the replayability of Metroid1?

There are three different endings depending on the percentage of items you collected. The only thing that really changes is whether Samus removes her helmet or not during the final cutscene. The 100% ending has a teaser for the sequel.

Also if you connect your GC to a GBA with a copy of Metroid Fusion running on it you'll get the Fusion Suit from the GBA game in Metroid Prime, and unlock the original game on both. you also get some more concept art.
