Matrix Infinity here and it seems to play everything apart from the handful of PS1 games that don't run properly on any PS2, modded or not.

Get a PAL machine though. PAL PS1 games run with a cropped screen on my Japanese machine.

Which is exactly what I have, with the same chip I believe. I just use my Yaroze PS1 for PS1 imports though heh.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that it's just a way for them to hide from any potential legal issues since the basic DMS without Toxic can't boot anything but homebrew code. Seems a bit convenient that one completely unrelated development team managed to completely work out how the chip works and make it run better than the team that released it can, right? Good system, I suppose.

Basically because the japanese PS2 can only run in NTSc, all those 25 FPS games are suddenly forced into 30FPS and run fast, and PAL games that were optimied (bordered up) to 720*576, can only be displayed at 720*480 thus the PS2 cuts off the first 86 horizontal lines of resolution, usually off the top or bottom.

I only have a couple of PAL games, so maybe some work OK, but basically, the display overscans so the top or bottom is "offscreen". On Wip3out SE, I couldn't see stuff like the speedo, music track etc.

[QUOTE=NekoFever]What sort of problems have you heard about with the DMS4/slimline/PS1 combo? I'm just wondering because I haven't had any or read about them on the DMS forums.[QUOTE]

                Below touches on it

                http://web02063.prolocation.net/phpB...hlight=pal+v14

I did originally want a DMS4 SE in my v14 as I found it an excellent chip in my earlier V7 and was asked if I'm planning on using PS1 imports as the videofix option in the menu doesn't work. As I do (My psone's boxed away) I decided against it and got the Matrix Infinity instead.

If you're not looking at the latest slimline (V14) then i'd say get either...both are equally as good as each other.

God,now im confused*scratchs head* if i get a pal ps2 modded with say a matix infinity chip, bung in a jpn ps1 game that runs full screen on my chipped ps1 i can expect it to still run full screen? Or if i bung in a pal ps1 game that runs in a frame on a pal ps2,and i mean frame,ie boarded all round not just top and bottom, id get the same effect?

I haven't had that problem in my v12. I have a few PAL PS1 games and I've played Japanese ones on it, and last summer I played through most of a US copy of FFVII with no issues at all. Sounds like it's just Sony tinkering with their hardware to mess with the chipping. That or v14 support wasn't finished since it was only added in the last version of ToxicBIOS.

If you don't want to or can't use a HD for pre-loading games onto, then I must recommend the Ghost2 chip. It works on all (yes, all) PS2 models including slimlines and ancient v0 Jap machines (like mine).

I've been running PAL PS2 games on the machine and had no cropping or speed issues with both God Of War, Guitar Hero and ICO. Not tried PAL Ps1 games but it I've heard it boots them all without issues (except the ones that are known to be incompatible with PS2s).
