The voice acting and re-done score in Twin Snakes let it down compared to the original MGS.

Yes, first-person shooting is in MGS4, as evidenced in the first gameplay trailer at TGS.

If you want clunky but great graphics, how about MGS One (PS1) played back using the Bleem! emulator disc on the Dreamcast.

That way you get to play it with the completely wrong controller but with great hi-res graphics!

Well remember in Twin snakes you can literally just tranq dart everyone and run off.

Also if you want to be a cheapskate, you can just run to another loading area (through a door or whatever) and the evade status will reset.

Currently playing through MGS3 tranq-darting and knifing everyone. Distinctly more easier on Normal now they've sorted the camera out at last (I don't have anything against the mostly top-down view in MGS and MGS2, but it didn't work well at all in a jungle environment).

You'll need to have a fair bit of patience to play MGS as you'll spend a lot of time waiting and watching for guard patterns. If you don't have the paitence, you're gonna be in for a frustrating time.

I thought Twin Snakes was decent, if a bit unbalanced by the new moves. First-person aiming makes the Ocelot fight a piece of piss, for example. It wasn't particularly difficult in the original but you can do it with something like three shots in the remake.

Personally I'd just play them all on the PlayStations. Those are what the games were designed for and they're mostly the best versions as well. That's certainly true with MGS2.

I've nearly finished MGS3 now and thoroughly enjoyed that. Just make sure that when you get to it you buy Subsistence and not regular Snake Eater because the 3D camera that they added makes a world of difference. I hated Snake Eater but loved Subsistence.

Gotta love that Ninja Violence, it isn't anywhere near as violent when the blood is cubed.

Xbox Substance is a mediocre port too. I'd scrap that in favour of the PS2 version. Not just because it's better, but by doing that you can stay with Dualshock controls all through the series instead of having to chop and change between GC/XB/PS controller setups.

You should play them in sequence starting with the PSone game.
                                Pretty much what he said.

If you can stomach the graphics, definantly get the playstation version of MGS. The music is FAR superior, cutscenes are better directed and less bull****. Gameplay isn't broken (TTH used the MGS layout but added MGS2 layouts, which mgs wasnt built for). Also, its subjective but Snakes VA in the original is much better than TTS.
