Well it looks as if Bulldog were right. This morning I was torrenting some TV shows and my surfing whilst they were downloading was really quick.

A quick check of the speed has shown my download spped has triple.Looks like Im 8 meg now after all.

      Well chuffed

Although I havent tested it to see what the fastest I can get torrents to download.

Is there a limit on utorrent as the torrents didnt seem any faster.

Downloading a program directly from MS was 4 times what I normally get.

Hovering at about six meg at the moment, have had as high as eight now. When I first started with BT, I was getting like 2 to 3 meg, after some complaints, the speed has now mysteriously jumped up to around six to seven meg constant.Although my upload speed looks poor in this test, I am usually getting around 400, probably averaging 380.I just got a sudden dip in this test because the network is pretty busy at the moment.I would not have reccomended BT a week ago, but now, I could not reccomend them highly enough. My broadband is truly flying now.

        It pays to complain

Your speed may contnue to get faster as well mate, with Bulldog, their servers keep on periodically testing the line at new speeds to see if it can handle bettter speeds.

Is that why my router resets occasionally?

The last time that happened my speed went from 2 to 8 meg.

If it keeps on going up I will be well happy. The guy at Bulldog when I phoned them a couple of months ago said we were on the 16 meg package so Im waiting for that to kick in.

Its really nice to be able to torrent and surf without too much lag.

A router may reset when doing a forware upgrade, the Bt home hub does this.

If you are unable to get 16 meg on the line which is quite likely, as not alot of lines actually support it, it may be worth downgrading your package to the eight meg package. However, the 16meg service is still in it's infancy and I would suggest waiting that little bit longer as they may just be upgrading your area to cope with the demand and you will see the speeds increase as the equipmewnt is upgraded in your area and the servers are better able to cope.

It also depends on how far away from the exchange you are, obviously the further away you get, the more likely it is your speeds will decrease.

Plusnet (who I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy) 2Mb, and I've been getting cut off loads tonight so I'm thinking they're doing something to my connection even though I opted out of their free upgrade to 8mb. I live in the sticks in Scotland so I'm actually about 400mls from the nearest server I was offered (Derby)

Hmmmm when testing against the UK (over 650 miles...) my speeds go right down, but I think game hosting is impacted by Latency so it looks like 66ms is pretty good.

My company uses Nextgentel for all our home offices, and we have had really good results with Citrix Metaframe. One of the NGT boffins told me that they provide very "Clean" lines, with almost no latency spikes within Norway.

Probably load of old balls, but who knows.

My line is given a minimum 6MB Down, and 750k up. (Though it normally runs at 8MB Down and 1MB up.)
