    PS3 Update has crashed my system

    Hey

    Can any of you guys help me out here, I tried to install the update which gives the internet function and its stuck on a screen which tells me to connect the pad to the USB port and hit the PS button, ive done this and it has just frozen up completely.

    Does it do anything when you reboot? Photos please.

    Firmware updates are the spawn of satan, especially if you live in the sticks like me and the power fails regularly with trees falling on the overhead lines.

      Ive not got a camera here

      but ive got the screen with the message

      Connect the controller using a USB cable, and then press the PS button.

      This is now not responding or doing anything.

        Unplug and reconnect it mate you have no choice.

        I hope it reboots and isn't bricked - Have you imported it ??

          yes its an import, so by the looks of it im utterly screwed, thanks Sony.

          I didnt install the update, I downloaded the file which took about 30 minutes, then thats when I got the message to insert the controller, and it just froze up on me.

            if nothing was being installed you should be ok to restart the ps3

              I'm sorry I don't have a direct link, but I think there was a dude on NeoGAF who had similar probs with an update seeming to brick his PS3. Thankfully he fixed it though, so hopefully you can do the same...but you'll have to go trawling through the boards to find it as I can't remember which thread it was in;

                    Turn it off, then hold the power button for 5 seconds and reboot it connected with composite leads.

                    That's what the guy on GAF did.

                      I dont seem to be getting any signal through my composite lead, is that some sort of software reboot or something?

                              I always wondered about this sort of thing, why is this proces so unstable? Every time I have to update the 360 for example I get so anxious it might die. I mean, isn't there any way to make it less dangerous? You'd think they could make it so there's always a backup of the firmware or something.

                              Sorry to hear about your PS3 mate .
