I?d be interested to hear how they perform. I wouldn't expect it not to work for the reasons MattyD went into, but I might be somewhat dubious of investing in a cheaply manufactured PSU.
Much more convenient than the previous huge stepdown which also seemed to raise the temperature within my TV cabinet.
I paid about ?11 or ?12 for mine, which was the cheapest I could find it for in eBay at the time.

My NTSC Wii is here! Took less than 2 weeks to arrive, and I ended up paying less for taxes than I expected (asked the seller to declare a lower selling price).
Works great! Oh, the glory of playing all the VC games with their real speed and without the black bordersI've set up the two consoles (the NTSC and the PAL) to the same television and used POP to compare the speeds on Metroid for the NES... No words necessary, once you go NTSC you never go back
Only insignificant disadvantages I found so far are:
-the initial screen that shows up right after the console is turned on appears in black and white, despite every other screens appear normally (weird)
-the clock can't be set to 24 hour format (even though this is the format that appears when you set the time on the options menu)
-NTSC Wii consoles only allow you to set your country to one where they are officially sold. Since the forecast channel uses this setting to determine your region, you lose it's functionality, as well as the news channel national news (which will now be from your fictitious country), and the voting channel, which will count your votes for the fictitious country statistics. More problems may occur in the future with this issue, once other channels or games that access your country settings are released
Couldn't be happier with it.Last edited by LostHeaven; 01-09-2007, 20:38.

My concern is how this impossibility to set up your real country might affect us in the future. But so far is an irrelevant issue

I was thinking of getting the Wii finally that Metroid is out and I'm interested in the American version for various reasons. I do have a step-down converter which I use for an American dreamcast, so that should suffice, no? What is the best way to connect the Wii to a CRT TV? RGB Scart won't work so what is my best option? (Get a new TV?)

I got my US wii a few weeks back but I had a few problems. Maybe the first one can go in the FAQ?
Wii can't see access point despite other devices connecting. I found out that a US Wii (in fact all US Wi-fi equipment) can only connect on channels 1-11 (eu has 13 JPN 14). Turns out the router was set to 12. Took me ages to work it out.
Couldn't use UK wiimote on US Wii. Turned out that it doesn't auto-sync as I believed, you have to press the red button on both the Wii (under the front flap) and the Wiimote (inside the battery compartment)
The other thing worth mentioning is you can buy universal PSU's which will work on any Wii. I got mine on ebay. Haven't used it yet, I just use my UK PSU but when I sell my UK wii I'll plug it in. I guess the only difference between it and a UK PSU is that I could take it abroad and use it with a suitable adaptor.Last edited by camaj; 01-10-2007, 23:02.
