I'm not convinced by the picture earlier in this thread showing the DAC being the same as the one in the GC lead. They don't appear to have the same number of pins, for one thing. Probably similar chips, but I don't think they're the same.
Seems as my prediction was 100% correct then (see page 7)

Only Nintendo would go this much out of their way to prevent RGB in US systems - funny that I know their way of thinking so well that I so easily could predict this....

Does anybody know if a UK Wii PSU will work with a Japanese Wii? I know you could use a UK Cube PSU with ntsc machines but not sure if it's the same deal.

I'm a bit concerned because my UK Wii PSU says it's 52w whereas on page 1 of this faq it looks like the US PSU is 58w (assuming the Japanese one is the same?).

The sticker on my UK Wii PSU says:

      PRI. : 230V~50Hz 52W
      SEC. : 12V(the symbol here is a line with 3 dots below)3.7A
      Thanks!

The US one is 53W, I had a look myself when I received mine.

          Thanks for that

importaku checked his Japanese PSU for me and the power output & +/- pin placement is the same so reckon it'll be fine. My Jpn Wii's coming tomorrow & was worried I'd need to try & sort out a step-down at short notice.

I'll try it tomorrow & update this post to confirm it works ok (touch wood).

Got my RGB cable today - it works with a US Wii, but you can't get an RGB picture, just standard. It seems slightly better than composite, but nothing too major.

Whats the screen burn-in setting about? What is it best set to on a LCD tv?

                    Doesn't matter for an LCD.

Is it safe to assume that a US NTSC machine willl work perfectly with a UK psu?? then

Does anyone know if UK controllers work on US machines? Also if the current consensus is that US Wiis don't do RGB, should we put that info at the front to replace the old one that's there?

Updated the RGB question to a definite No.

Can anyone tell me where I'd find a tool to allow me to open the Wii so I can find out what video chip is in there, so we can set about investigating a workaround?

Well, what does the screws look like?

Looking forward to any progress, this will be very important for my choice of console... =/

I use a UK controller brought with wii play on my US machine with no problem.

Thanks for the info, i didn't spot that you need a classic controller to play many of the VC games y'see, thought the remote and nunchuk would cover it. Forgot that the remote/nunchuk combo only gives you one analogue stick, so it's down the shops for me when it arrives.

On a side note, I am starting to sweat it a little regarding the video signals my tv will accept. I know it can take rgb scart but that is off the menu as I have a US model coming. So that leaves me with composite and S-video. My tv has no s-video input so (using my 360) i did a quick test to see if it would accept s-video through the scart socket, sadly that came out black and white. So my only option is out of the box NTSC composite, which I hear can come through as b&w on older tellies...
