Do you just have the one SCART socket? Generally, the first socket will be wired for RGB and one of the others will be wired for svideo. If you plug svideo into an RGB/composite socket, you'll get a slightly messy black and white picture.

I ended up getting a component->RGB transcoder in order to hook mine up, but it's not a cheap option. Looks great, though, and I figure I've already saved a fair bit by getting a US model in the first place.

Usually that's the case. Having said that, my 10 year old 14" Sony portable does composite, S-video and RGB through the one Scart.

Just the one, so I guess it's probably just RGB, seeing as it came out b&w with s-video via the scart. Can you explain more about your component to RGB business?

I have a question regarding this Component to RGB scart converter:

Would it allow for the 480i component signal from a US Wii to be displayed in full screen on a PAL tv using RGB scart?

The thing that has me a little puzzled is that in the pdf file of the instruction manual (further down on the webpage) it says that the video format for NTSC on this converter is 525i. Would that result in black borders on the top and bottom of the screen to fill out the 480i component signal to 525i? Or will the 480i signal from the Wii just be converted to RGB and be properly displayed in a full screen 4:3 format as when displaying RGB from a Snes? In that case, this would be an RGB-solution for the Wii, albeit a rather expensive one. On top of that, it requires signal conversion with possible loss of signal quality....

Yes, that should work just fine. Remember also to get one of these to hook the sound up to it:

quick question, can you use the wii on a rear projection tv, my freind says it mentions something in the manual (might of been a game manual) about a mode you can switch on where by it protects the rear projection screen from burning,

any truth to this, any help appreciated.

I'd like to know that too, I take it I can't just use the old one from my PAL 'Cube?

You'll probably need a Wii PSU for a Wii, it needs about 7W more than a Cube.

I'm thinking of getting a Wavebird for my Gamecube games - does anyone know if they're compatible with Wii (PAL Wii and UK Wavebird)?

Not had an issue using them, though naturally they only work in Cube mode.

I would imagine that's just the 'screen saver' mode that can be set within the dash rather than anything especially technical.
