Just about, it was only just about for the Cube (48W). Wii uses 51W, I'd recommend getting a 100W stepdown instead or a replacement power supply.

Can I ask the peeps using this with an HD LCD - what's the best lead to buy to connect to the TV; the official RGB Scart or a third-party component?

      Thanks
      Tony

Component. They should be identical in 480i, but Component supports 480p.

Thanks - and am I right in thinking there are only third party component leads?

No there is an official. No idea if the official is better, I always go official to be safe though.

You can get the Game own-brand component cable for about £12 brand new but the build quality isn't great, so I expect the picture quality isn't as good either. The official ones are £18 on play.com or about the same inc. shipping from Play Asia, so it might be worth going official for the sake of the few quid, which is minimal when spread over the lifetime of the machine.

Thanks guys - will order an official one straight away.

Now have an official component lead and it improves the picture quality immensely - well worth the extra outlay if you have a HDTV.

Am I right in thinking that the only way to play USA games on my JPN Wii is with a chip? Wasn't there something called the Freeloader by Datel or something?

There was, they finally cracked it to have the Freeloader work on the Wii, then a few weeks later, an update knocked it straight back out again.

You can chip your Wii but no chip has 100% compatability ATM and IIRC no chip works properly with Super Mario Galaxy (and thus presumeably no other 1st party Nintendo games).

                          One more question!

How easy is it getting online with a Japanese console (in terms of negotiating the myriad menu screens in kana)? How have other people done it?

                          Ta

I used a menu translation and found it surprisingly easy to do. As long as you know what yes/no, ok/cancel is, you should be fine. Once your online, it's just a case of fumbling around the menus until you know where everything is. Downloading VC games haven't been a problem either.

You can get the translation here.

Basic question but I am getting a wii pretty soon. I have no interest (as yet) in VC games and so, for just saving games, do I need an SD card? If so, how much space is taken up. I have a tiny one (16Mb i think from my camera!) and if that is enough, i'd rather not go out and buy more stuff.

                              Thanks

It seems to me, now in possession of a 2GB card it is fairly pointless. It appears that all you can use it for is backing up - it is not an extension of the system memory. I have six games and the system memory is not even halfway full.
