Does it fix EVERYTHING and make it look at least as good as playing on a PS2?

When I saw it reported (On Kotaku, I think) they said that they'd tried Okami (And another game that escapes me) and that it looked beautiful.

Ah, I'm so glad this patch has been released. To be honest it was the last barrier to me picking up a PS3 as I've still got a fair few PS2 games to play - not to mention the fact that it'll be ready and waiting for God of War 2.

            EDIT: Okami and MGS3.

How are PS1 games in 480p now? They looked terrible before, hence me disabling 480p in teh XMB, and using the X and triangle mode for PS2 games that support it, and running everything else in 480i.

Do this mean Winning eleven games and cave shooters look ok now on PS3.

GT.com has a new comparisson video of PS2 running on PS3. It actually looks better on PS3 now than it did on PS2.

While I'm not 100% convinced it looks better (it does look slightly softer), games are deinterlaced internally and run at 480p.

                      The video is a comparison of PS3 pre-1.50/PS3 1.50, not PS2/PS3

                      EDIT

No one here says otherwise, that'll teach me to read slowly

The 'before' comparison can't be pre-1.5, because pre-1.5 was basically unusable, no exaggeration.

I'm not sure I agree with GameTrailers though, they've said nothing about the environment they've tested it on. Were they using HDMI on PS3 or Component? What screen?

The latter is key. As I've said, the PS3 basically deinterlaces PS2 games internally (as 480i is not HDMI spec). On my Bravia S, PS2 games on the PS3 are definately softer, probably because my TV is better at deinterlacing than the RSX doing it in software. It's not as bad as it sound, in fact, I use my PS3 for PS2 games primarily now, but the difference should be clearly visible to most people here who know what they're looking for.

On the other hand, for people with mediocre LCD TV's that don't handle 480i as well, they may find the 480p feed from the PS3 to be much better.

As I say, it's so much based on the environment etc, that it's unreasonable to say one is better than the other. They are just different.

Bottom line is that the PS3 is now perfectly fine for playing PS1/2 games, regardless of whatever anal AV techy complaints we may pump out, and that's the main thing.

Downloaded the new Firmwire update last night, sorry can't remember number.
I hated the way the PS3 made PS2 games look before, so used my PS2 for PS2.
I tried a few games out on the PS3 beside the a PS2 running the same game.

TV used is 42 Panny Viera, PS3 via HDMI and PS2 component.

PS3 running PS2 games is still softer to me than the PS2

It is softer, because of the aforementioned deinterlacing (and the fact that it's being done by the RSX in software). I think it's good enough though, though people with decent TV's that handle 480i well may prefer to use a PS2 as they may get better results.
