Need a new memory stick for my PSP

Well, I've messaged the seller and have managed to "persuade" him to cancel my purchase - although the price is alot nicer than Play's I would rather have peace of mind that the card won't fail on me/wreck my PSP, although I'm sure to an extent not even official cards are 100% fool proof.

Now that that's done with, am I still better off buying a 4GB card for use with PS1 games such as Final fantasy and other RPGs? How much space would 1 game take up? Am I really going to need a 4GB for multiple games?

About to buy a 4GB off of play. Before I do, does anyone know where I can otain one for any less than play/mymemory or ebay?

It still seems like an awful lot of cash, even if it is down from £150. Obviously its more space, but just how much would I actually need?

The more the better, although it depends what you'll be using your PSP for. If you're storing movies then you'll be able to encode at better quality (always useful) and if you're storing emus and games on it then you can never have too much space.

I have a 2Gb and I can only really store 1 or 2 games on it because of all the media/homebrew/emus that reside on it pretty much all the time. I'd say 4Gb is spot on. I had a 4Gb when I first got my PSP but sold it because I didn't think I'd ever use the space....then I downgraded my firmware and that was the beginning of the end.

I don't know why, but you strike me as the sort of person who's a bit "fussy" (no offense intended) when it comes to things like quality, but this is just based on some of the posts of yours I've read in the LCD TV questions topic, so hearing you say something like that has me a bit shocked.

If you bought it from Global_memory_machine, then those are definate fakes. They might not look like them and they may provide the storage, but isn't it better to have safety now rather than down the line have your data erased or possibly worse because you chose to opt for a fake?

I was very much tempted to just say sod it and part with the ?35, but I usually have a habit of regretting bad choices down the down.

The guy I ordered mine from is called memorystore2007. Doesn't seem to be any signs of dissatisfaction, although on ebay that can mean very little.

I'm still torn over spending £60 on a memory stick, and when you're currently out of work thats a fair bit of moolah.

Just to confirm that the method i described earlier on is correct. Magicgate supported does not appear with the fake i borrowed.

Well it came today, looks like a real stick, packing seems decent (looks like a european one). had a memory stick adapter in there too.

Its either a real one or a very very very good fake, i honestly could'nt tell, it has a sony hologram also.

4 GB prefered so I can fit all those lovely PS1 games I have on it. Seen this on the 'bay:

My only concern however, is that its blue whereas the ones sold by play are red (I'm assuming) One was bought recently from the seller however with positive feedback left.

Can anyone recommend what I should do? If not ebay, is there anywhere else more reputable I can obtain a 4 GB stick for less than play's price?

I bought that exact same card from play-asia for $115 USD or so. It's more than what ebay charges, but still a cheap price, and I can assure you it's no fake. With ebay, you're taking a risk. Last year, play-asia sent some coupons to everyone who's ever purchased from them. One of them was $15 off any purchase of $100 or more. That would apply here. It said that the code would expire end of 2006, but I used it in 2007 no problem, so I assume it should still work for you.

I'd get it from some place I can trust rather than ebay. And I can confirm that Sandisk mem sticks from PA are genuine. I rang up Sandisk to find out.

There are a few things you can do to see if its genuine. The first thing is the packaging. The packaging for the fake ones looks cheap. Six blobs of glue instead of properly heat sealed around the edges.

That only applies for Sony, not Sandisk. Sandisk doesn't use that kind of sealing.

How are you able to tell if its a fake or not? The seller's feedback is decent enough.

Feedback isn't enough. Most users, once they receive their package and see that it's unopened, sealed, brand new, and in pristine condition, they will give their positive feedback, without actually testing it. Most of them won't even know it was a fake! The fakes are so convincing now even suppliers don't know they're fake.

How easy are sony holograms to fake? Is it possible?

Also, bootmonster you've just said that the official one's capacity is 3.6GB and that any more is a definate fake - yours however is 3.75, could it not simply be possible that cards never have an EXACT capacity?

I think I'm going to take a risk with the seller boris bought his from, £60 is too much for me atm.

Well my sandisk formats to 3904mb iirc. Just stick it in your psp and see if magicgate is supported. Its easy enough.
