I was considering the U2412M too but it's a fixed 16:10 resolution with no pixel mapping, so there'll be some small stretching of 16:9 content. The input lag on the U2412M is relatively small too but I haven't seen an IPS LCD get anywhere near the 2312. It's just a shame that the new Dells don't have HDMI inputs too, as I'll have to add an HDMI switch to the end of my DVI>HDMI cable. The 2312 is a lovely, well-built monitor for the money though, I'd even say that the stand is a lot smoother than the one I had with my U2410 and I prefer the rounded edges on it too.

Depends on where you're viewing it from, really. The U2410 was an absolute titan on my desk- not bad for consoles, but when playing PC games that required me to sit at the desk and use the keyboard I had to turn pixel mapping on and set the game's resolution to something like 1280x1024 so it didn't overwhelm me. Setting 1:1 pixel mapping on when playing 720p console content really drives home how small the current gen's video outputs are- they might look huge when scaled to a 50" TV but they're like an animated postage stamp in the middle of that monitor! There are some 27" screens available but if you're sitting at a desk to use one I'd encourage you to try one out before buying in case you end up craning your neck back to stop your peripheral vision from being constantly filled. The >24" Dells also seem to have unacceptable levels of input lag, unfortunately.

Is that a U2412 I spy?Which keyboard is that, by the way?
Had to replace my U2312HM as it happens- it made an irritating buzzing sound at <97 brightness. Hopefully the replacement won't suffer from the same issue. Bit annoying as Dell don't seem to be able to get something as simple as edge LED lighting right.

haha. Yes mate its a 2412M... I really like it, it looks lush. You were right about the screen size thing as well mate, so thanks for the advice!
The keyboard is a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate, which I must say feels excellent, really a cut above my last keyboard which was a Sidewinder X4, so not exactly great anyway...

No problem.I'm still so tempted to re-buy a U2410 as they're on A05 by now, so hopefully some of the problems would've been ironed out. I really miss my old one, despite the issues that really shouldn't be present on a >?400 monitor.
Looks like a nice keyboard too. I still love my Filco Tenkeyless but I miss having illuminated keys at night.

I've just cleaned up my games room to a presentable state that will please my wife. Being a 36 year old married gamer means no more rooms full of games, gaming poster or general stereotype game Otaku/Nerd image. Not that I think they are nerdy. Anyway, here's the current state in a poor panoramic shot.
Below is a better shot of my HD gaming set-up. Only 1 console because that's all I need, a 360 elite that's never had any issues  The 360 and PC are connected to the TV via HDMI with audio going through the 5.1 amp. great for HD gaming and HD movies (from the PC). In the cupboards next to the TV are the games I really enjoy or currently play or bought. 99% of my stuff is in a storage room.
The next picture is a close up shot of my PC and Retro corner. I'd love a separate big CRT but as mentioned above, that's not possible any more. So I use a 25" HD monitor for the PC (HDMI) with the Saturn and Mega Drive running through RGB to the X-RGB3 then in to the monitor. Fantastic results! The Dreamcast connects directly to the monitor via the official VGA box. Again, fantastic image quality. All audio for the PC and consoles comes through the Creative Labs speakers. They have really great sound. Crisp with a very nice warm and full bass. Wonderful speakers for the price.
I'm going to get myself a nice relaxing swivel chair for Christmas so I can play Retro games in comfort.
