Super Famicom Jr - It gets worse!!

Need a little advice on this one please gents. I bought an RGB modded Super Famicom Jr from a chap on Ebay (100% positive feedback), received it today and plugged it into my LCD tv (with an RGB lead) only to find the picture incredibly bright/saturated and juddering slightly . Have since tried it with another RGB lead, same problem, so that rules out the lead. Figured it might not like being displayed on my LCD, so tried it on a nice 4:3 CRT via RGB scart, and it's still horribly bright (though the juddering seems to have gone) It's so bright that even when lowering all the tv's picture settings it's still nigh on impossible to get a clear picture.
What do people think, dodgy console? Bad RGB modding job? I mailed the guy before i bid and he said it was modded in Japan, which didn't really help.
Have bought a **** load of games, and now i'm sitting here thinking i might have to find my sunglasses to play the bastards
    Any help/advice appreciated

Try pluggin it in S-video scart or use s-video cable. Just a shot in the bright light.

The RGB picture on my old SFC Jr (modded by Saur I think, who also did a perfect RGB mod for my N64) was very bright as well. Changing the TV settings helped but things like the clouds in Super Mario Collection and the glass windows in Smash Court would still have a kind of glowing/fluorescent effect.

So I sold it and got a original SFC. They look better anyway

Just tried. Don't seem to get a picture over S-Video, though i do on my U.S N64 using the same lead.

Really? Would you describe it as super-bright, really garish? If that's the case i may just do the same and sell this on and buy an original Jpn Snes. Am well disappointed though

Well, I just got annoyed about changing the TV settings every time I turned the console on. Apart from some of the whites still looking too bright it was fine.

So your problem with the RGB does seem a lot worse.

What kind of cable have you got by the way? I used the same one for my SFC Jr and N64 but it's been over two years and I can't remember exactly but I'm sure it's not just a stock SFC/SNES RGB cable.

I'm using the one the chap sent with it, which is a purple unofficial thing. I've also tried the Madcatz 3-in-1 scart lead (The one that has three connectors on it, for PS1/2, Xbox, and Gamecube/N64... hence Snes i guessed )
You think i may need a SF Jr specific lead perhaps?

Is this not the thing where you need capacitors inside the lead to take the overload out of the picture? We need Chaoticjelly here, stat! might be worth trying to PM him, he knows seemingly everything about retro hardware.

Well having had more of a tweak of the settings on a CRT, i can get a fairly nice picture out of this - it's just a pain to have to change the settings, and that it doesn't like my LCD (which i've just found out my U.S SNES doesn't like either) so i'm relieved that at least it doesn't appear to be faulty. Am gonna take Mezza's advice though and sell this and get an original Super Famicom i think.
Thanks for all the help guys

Haven't read this thread fully but used to have an old super famicom running through a custom lead on an old 1084s monitor.
The picture came incredibly bright, similar to what u describe on your LCD.
The problem with my lead was no one had put resistors on the red, green and blue lines so just fitted a 75ohm resistor to each and all was tickity-bo. This is the same with a megadrive RGB lead, if you don't put the resistors on the line the signal is too strong and hence comes out over-bright looking.
CPS2 boards had a similar problem, not sure if ur Snes Jnr. is the same but that sounds like the cause of it perhaps.

Thanks. Having done a little more reading that would appear to be the issue
Think i've decided an original super Famicom is the machine for me now anyway, so this is back up on Ebay...

Well time to re-open the thread. I sold this on ebay just the other day, and was quite clear about the picture being very bright through the RGB mod and that resistors may be needed, after advice i'd got from here and other places. Surprise surprise the guy i sold it to has sent me a somewhat threatning message telling me he's very unhappy with the picture, and that the RGB mod is 'broken'
In true classy ebay manner he's threatening to go to Paypal/Ebay if i don't send him a refund (and he returns it), or at least a partial refund (and he keeps it).
Now this has narked me off a bit cos A.) I accepted it was a common thing with RGB Modded Jrs after getting advice on it, and hence left the guy i bought it from two weeks ago positive feedback after giving him the benefit of any doubt. and B.) i was perfectly clear in the listing about the overly bright picture through RGB.
I've got a lot going on at the mo (family bereavment) so don't really need the hassle so am thinking of just sending him his partial refund as he wants, but what worries me is the guy'll say ok to that then hit me with a chargeback at a later date for the full amount or something Is there any way i can avoid this etc?
                          Advice needed

Did you sell it to someone with a confirmed Paypal address and use tracking?
