so is it region locked on SD .. or not?
Blu Ray films* - Mixed bag. Some discs are region locked whilst others are region free (think it's up to the studio).

Games* - currently all games are Region Free. Like the PSP it's technically possibly to region lock the games but Sony/ publishers are not doing so.

*This is the same for both standard & hi-def.

There are problems playing some PAL games on an import PS3 in standard def though. This is down to differences in the video standards used in each region rather than games being region locked.

Import PS3's: support a standard def resolution of 480i (the standard for ntsc tv's)

PAL games: some games support both 480i & 576i resolution. Others only support 576i.

Import PS3's don't have the option to select 576i as a resolution as ntsc tv's don't support it. If you try to play a PAL game that only supports 576i on an ntsc PS3 you get an error message. Unfortunately people seem to be wrongly concluded that the game must be region locked. If you were to play the same game in hi-def (where video standards are global & there's none of the ntsc/pal nonsense) it'll play fine.

    Hope this makes sense?
