Playing retro lightgun games on a HDTV

I recently dug out my old copy of Virtua Cop 2 and the gun for the Sega Saturn to play on my new HDTV. To my horror the gun was all over the place and I was unable to caliberate it in the options. The game is perfectly playable with a controller so it works fine. The same also applies to House of the Dead 2 on the Dreamcast.

Has anyone else experienced this or know of a cure?

Hdtv's wont have it im afraid. You can get compatible lightguns that will work on hdtv, but not for Saturn or Dc.

Annoying isnt it. I'd like to play HOTD again.

      What's the options?

Only thing I've seen is a lightgun that comes with little "wii-style" sensor strips that you place down the sides of your screen. It was called the "LCD TopGun". Apparently it works quite well, but I dunno if there is a Saturn/Dreamcast version ... the thing I saw was only for PS2 or XBOX180, I think.

Not a lot of options it seems. Either keep a standard TV to play them on or store them/sell them.

Personally I tend not to collect anything that I can't play or won't use so I may be forced to sell. Shame because HOD2 hasn't aged a day.

You could get the gun peeveen mentiond and play hotd 2 on an xbox 1, if you have one? As its included on hotd 3 is it not? Same goes for you Mr Pavey.

              I've a 360 otherwise that would've been a great idea.

Still can't beat booting up the old Saturn though. The Virtua Gun was second to none.

yeah I believe it is. It's the xbox gun itself that would be the issue.

Interesting you should mention a 360 gun. I'm going on a search to see if I can learn more about it. If it exists, its bound to be HDTV friendly considering a lot of 360 owners will now have a HDTV.

                    I've got 2 of these:
                    http://www.ntsc-uk.com/feature.php?f...&fea=LCDTopGun (my review).

Works great on PC, PS2 and Xbox on ANY tv or projector screen. I now use them on my 42" HD Plasma. Won't work on 360 though because there aren't any xbox ports on the 360 and the usb bits rely on drivers.

Cheers charlesr. At $34 plus p&p, that's a bargain. Great looking too.

By the looks of it that's the only compatible gun, which means I'll never be able to play Virtua Cop on my HDTV

                      At least now I know.

Definitely going to look into that EMS gun but was wondering if anyone knew if you could get a USB to SS convertor to work with it. If it worked with GunCon1/Hyper Blaster titles as well, it's a must buy.

@ shou, it doesn't work with SS stuff - the usb only works with a driver on PC.

@angelx - The LCDTopGun is HDTV compatible. I'm playing Time Crisis and Ninja Assault and Point Blank on my HD Plasma right now.
