    videogamesplus ps3

    Hi All,

Just after a bit of clarification as it all seems to good! I'm looking to get a ps3 when I stumbled upon this site. As recommended I went over to videogamesplus.

I would look to get the console with a few additional games. Console is ?267.31 wow. Reading through the forum I understand that I need to get a new power lead, 5amp kettle one will do. Just wondering what additional costs and leads I need. For example do I get the correct leads to connect to my tv (I'm uk based) and what are the additional charges for sending the ps3 to the uk. I don't really understand 'mark down'. On the first page it mentions in the vicinity of around ?100 for customs and VAT?

Also for people who have ordered from videogamesplus what price have you had to pay including delivery.

I understand that the games are region free but the blu-ray player is not. Am I right in thinking that the same applies to playing DVDs though the ps3 as well. For example the uk DVDs I have at the moment will not work?

Many thanks, have not imported anything before so best to go simple with me!

Standard DVDs will be by region, so if you buy a JPN PS3 it'll only play Region 2 (NTSC) DVDs. Blu-Ray is a bit more forgiving as many discs are region-free. I've never used VG+ so I can't reallyhelp you with that bit.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

markdown means the declared value of the package will be marked down. VG+ usually mark down to $20 but this also means that if the package goes missing you are only insured for $20

You will need either a component or a hdmi lead to get the best picture from the PS3.

DHL delivery charge is around the £50 mark and if you get hit with customs it could be around £100

Have you not considered a PAL PS3?

Delivery was about £50, and I didn't get customs. But as a new customer they might still put the full amount on the customs label for you, so you may get hit with a bill.

If memory serves I paid about £320 for my PS3 when they first came out, something around that mark from VG+

"mark down" basically means, your allowed a certain amount of money on imported goods before C&E decide to take a chunk out of you and ask for more, luckily though, with VG+ they circumvent this altogether by packing the PS3 up discreetly and marking the item down as to avoid additional costs.

The only other lead you might wanna snap up is a HDMI lead though.

They marked mine down with a declared customs value of $20 but the supporting documentation showed that they'd insured it for roughly $800. Not sure how they'd have explained that one in the event of a claim though.....

Whilst PS3 games are region free it's worth noting that PS1 / 2 games aren't so a US PS3 will only play US PS1/2 games.

Many Blu-Ray movies don't actually have any region coding so at least some UK releases will work ok too...think there are lists on the 'net if you do a search.

Was that in total or excluding delivery? It would have been full RRP wouldn't it? It's ?320 with the price drop, or did you get hit by customs?

Including delivery if memory serves, and didn't get hit with customs on either of the machines I got from em' (had two, one for me, another for a family member).

As I understand it, wost case situation (lets miss out the bit about it getting lost in the post) is that I get hit with the customs charge which could add an extra £100 + the postage would take it to about the same price as buying it in the UK? Where have most of you brought your consoles from?

On a bit of a side note. I was going to order a couple of games at the same time and just wonder if any one had played the NASCAR series. 08 is out on Monday.

                  Many thanks for the replies.

Where did you get you PAL ps3 from? Don't really like the games in the uk bundle.

Simple answer i think is if you have a big back catalogue of US PS1/2 games get a US console, if your PS1/2 games are UK, get a PAL console.

Region free games so they are irrelevant, many Blu Rays are region free -

                          for example

Are you going to use it as a dvd player? Are your dvd's mainly UK or US?

And hope that the limited BC support allows the game to run? When was the last time that list on Sony Europe's website updated? There are very few titles with a perfect rating - most either have 2 blocks (which means runs with problems) or 1 block (which basically means "**** off I'm not playing this, go buy a US PS3")

How come you got it so cheap at launch then?
