    Wii Pro Logic II Question

    Hi guys,

I must admit, in the world of AV setups, I struggle most of all with understanding audio issues. I've just ordered a new Sony home cinema kit, I have a 3 way optical switcher to connect to one of its optical inputs that sorts out my PS3, 360 and SkyHD. My question regards the Wii, which as I understand it, employs Dolby Pro Logic II to spoof surround sound out of 2 channels. The question is this: for that to work properly, do I need to connect the 2 audio cables from the Wii component cable directly into the amplifier in the Home Cinema kit, or can I just connect the component to the TV then connect the TV to the amplifier? Doing it the latter way, will I still get the Pro Logic II out of the Wii?

    Thanks for your help!

I do it the latter way (Wii sound to the TV, TV to the amp), and Pro Logic II works fine

TV's are hardly the last bastian of quality audio components though. Keep audio (particularly if it's analogue like Pro-Logic) going on as short a chain as possible. Stick it straight to the amp, there's no drawback and you're minimising the amount of ****e it's going to pick up by going through a telly.

I use Wii Component to Tv and then an AV lead out to the amp, seems to work fine for me and means I don't have to turn off the Amp and increase the TV's volume when I want to play the Wii

Best method I find is to connect the Wii's audio output directly to your amp but also feed an output from the amp to your TV. That way you get the best quality sound running through the amp but can also play it through your TV if and when desired.

I do it the latter way. It may sound better going directly into the Amp but I can't tell any difference.

Due to me using up all my free sockets, I have my Wii sound running into the line-in on my secondary PC, which is connected to my speakers via coaxial - Pro Logic II still works fine!

Wii component AV cable to Farmer's small YPbPr box, to Joytech AV center first version, a small two-way splitter (to keep the Wii and an other console connected all the time - usually the DC) and finally to the amp.
DPLII works fine, not the simplest setup for wiring and not the best for audio quality, but the DPLII works fine.
IIRC the DPL processor should be able to emulate DPLII on any stereo input, while it would just separate channels with a proper DPLII input.
