Xbox 360 - swapping data over HDDs

If i get a Xbox 360 Elite, and transfer the data over from my premium with the cable Microsoft will be giving out, do I have to be signed into Xbox live to access the content?

The data transfer kit is only for the US at the moment if you use that link, anyone have any idea when the UK can order these?

        No idea sorry.

According to GAME's website they're going to be posting details of how to get the kit/ disc here:

Hopefully there're be some kind of leaflet in with the Elite's though.

First of all the Elite does not come with the transfer cable, although stores are recieving a small amount to give to customers purchasing the Elite on a first come first serve basis. If you don't manage to get one froma store then you have to contact Microsoft via the phone or internet to claim your free transfer cable.

Now onto the trading your Premium 360 business. The trade price for the Premium 360 is ?160, what Gamestation will do is deduct ?32 from that ?160, making the trade price ?128, so you can take your 20GB HD home to do the transfer. You will be then supplied with a credit slip (or something along those lines) so after you have done your transfer you can bring the 20GB HD back and redeem your ?32 that was deducted from the original ?160 trade price of the Premium 360. Before questions rain in, I believe the ?32 credit slip for the 20GB HD is valid for 30 days but I will double check that when I go into work next. Hope this helps

you don't need 2 consoles to transfer data from 20gb - 120gb HDD

The XBLA games will be transferred too but you HAVE to be signed into Xbox live when you want to play them, every time. sucks but apparently you can delete them and re-download them (for free) and you no-longer need to be online to access the content.

GAME's way of sorting it for people that want to know, if it hasn't been mentioned, is by upping the Cash Trade-In price of the 360 to £140 which is the same as the normal Trade-In price therefore you can buy your Elite today, get the data kit in a week or so, then go back and get £140 Cash Back for your premium once you've done with your transfering of files.

I read someone on Xbox Live got a new console and couldn't access the arcade titles and download content when not signed-in to Live but managed to ring up Microsoft and they validated his console to those games and content so he can now access them offline without signing in.

I had this same problem when I got a new machine and put my old hard-drive on my TDU file wouldn't load up, signed into Live or not, and to add to that I had exclusive pre-order cars that wern't available to download over Xbox Live tied to that save, somehow its now working fine but this whole issue is pretty annoying for people who get stuck in those situations..

                Olly.

I doubt this will work. If you are connected to Xbox Live with an account that has already paid for them, then there will be no option to buy the full game. It is the purchase that allows you to play the game offline and that transaction is linked to the console itself.

If you can't play a game offline, you need to contact Microsoft and they will refund you the MS points to the amount you spent on the games so you can re-buy them with an alternative Live account.

They did this for me at the end of June. All you need is proof of exchange.

                      You need to ring: 0800 587 1102

They will ask you to confirm your address details etc + your Elite's Serial No. It will then be posted, and takes 1 - 2 weeks to arrive.

Is there anyway to check the size of your game saves? I don't have many saves (6 games at most) and was thinking about buying a 512MB Official Memory card to transfer the data. I haven't downloaded any pay games, and can always just recover my gamertag. Sound like a plan?

...or if anyone would prefer to go the postal route there's a link in this page with a form to complete:

Go to the System blade then Memory>Games and you'll be able to see what size they are. Most are less than 1MB.
