    360 Elite 'image persistance' issue

Hey folks, having a problem with the hdmi connection on my Elite - whenever there is a dark scene, the previous data is imprinted on it. Sort of like really, really bad ghosting except it doesn't disappear it just sticks there. I noticed some issues with Bullet Witch but didn't pay much attention as it doesn't have many dark scenes. However playing Bioshock it's very noticeable and very annoying. The WB is out in these shots but it highlights the issue, this is taken in the lift down - I've spun around from the bright door then hit the pause button and you can see it's all still there:

Again in the lift, I've turned again and you can see the lit joint has left a trail:

And one just outside the lift, you can see as I've moved it's created the effect in the dark area:

This is the first time I've used the hdmi socket on the TV, I can't remember the exact model number but it's the 32 inch Samsun LCD that was released around the time of the original 360. It looks to work fine on all other inputs, it's just hdmi that seems to be the issue.

I do have another slightly newer Samsung TV with hdmi, I plan on moving the Elite through and trying it on that but would appreciate any thoughts people have. Incidentally, the moment I power down the 360 and the TV returns to a black screen it's a solid black - no persistance there. Also, this is not standard burn-in/image persistance as it disappears when something else overwrites it.

Any thoughts appreciated, none too happy right now.

I'm sure I've seen that on my 360 via component from time to time. I'm not sure the problem is with the TV, and more the games themselves.

I've seen that in Halo 2, but it's a known bug. Can't help otherwise.

Do you have any other HDMI devices to try?
        Have you tried different resolutions?

Have a google for Samsung Dynamic Dimming and see if you think it's related to your problem.

I've got a smaller Samsung panel and whilst I have no issue with my 360 over component, I DO have some issues with persistance like this with my PS3 over HDMI!

I have heard a few things said about the Dynamic dimming that Pete just mentioned, but have not really paid too much attention to it! If it bugs you too much I know the AV forums is usually pretty helpful for stuff like that, and someone should be able to point you in the direction of the remote code for the service menu to change it to off.

I've got a Sammy and have been having the exact same thing! I might switch back to VGA, tbh.

I've got a Samsung 32" and my HDMI slot is used by SkyHD, I have absolutely ZERO ghosting like this so I'm not sure it's not the TV.

I've got it on both HDMI connections, although I think it could be the machine, since the PS3 doesn't exhibit this problem.

Put the VGA cable back on, which if I'm honest, I prefer to the HDMI output of the 360. It's a bit of a softer picture and doesn't suffer from some of the noise that appears on my panel through HDMI.

I've just expericed a really screwy lighting bug on Bioshock at Fort Frolic. Factoring in the other technical problems with the game which have been documented since release, it wouldn't surprise me if it's a software issue rather than a hardware one.

Apparently Game mode makes this worse

Kinda makes me think it's the machine, tbh, since Game Mode is supposed to be a "direct feed" or something like that, but even with it switched off, the problem still occurs.

VGA, Component etc. all work fine, no ghosting.

I think this is a problem specific to that model of Samsung television. That's an R41, right?

When I had mine, I can't say I experienced that, but there were a lot of reports about it a few months later. You could try contacting Samsung but I don't know what, if anything, they'll do about it.

I've seen this before, it's definitely the TV - I'm not sure if Samsung fixed it.

This is image retention - I suffer this on my Samsung 40" (LE40M61), primarily on SD TV signals. It's virtually non existant on DVD and I'd never seen it on the 360, that was before Bioshock. It's still very rare on that but it is there ! No idea what this game does different to others, but other dark games like Gears deffinately did not suffer from this problem.

The connection has nothing to do with it, I get this on Scart TV - HDMI DVD and Component 360 !
