Aye, it's a pain. But it's the only console unit I've ever had trouble with. Ever. And my first console was an Atari Lynx back when, so it hasn't been a bad run really.

I'd still point the finger at a dodgy firmware update rather than the machine itself. If it was the machine, the only difference prior to it working, was that it had built up some heat, so maybe that's effecting it. I dunno.

I just hate having to deal with shop assistants. =o Dreading tomorrow.

Sad news mate, make sure you get a full replacement.

Might be worth phoning the store manager now to let him know your anger/fustration etc, then go in and ask for him directly tomorrow.

I know on my PS3 there is a setting on the HDMI output in the system menu. Might be worth trying a couple because I know it was put in one of the newer firmwares.

Goto Settings, Then Display Settings and there is a selection for RGB FULL RANGE (HDMI). Try changing that to the other setting.

I would but it's all packaged up now for departure. I did play around with the options before hand, but none of them changed anything. I mean there were moments when I'd turn it on and it would look fine, but then gradually the picture would revert to jittering and blacking out. Like the signal wasn't being sent consistantly or something.

I'll learn more tomorrow no doubt. They might test it, or they might just give me a replacement in good faith.

Ok Gents. Long story short - the PS3 was fine, but whatever controls HDMI on my TV is ruined. I'm going to look into the guarantee, but for the time being I'm considering the alternative to HDMI.

I'd be happy with a VGA cable. But I can't find one anywhere, so maybe they don't exist for PS3. The next best thing I could find was this component cable.

Can anyone advise my options regarding cables?

                Thanks.

I always generally go for official cables, and the official PS2 component cable works on the PS3.

However the Blaze rgb PS2 cable i had was as good as, if not better, than the official one.

And component is your best bet after HDMI.

There is also an official PS3 component cable. Not sure how much though.
