Is there a list anywhere of which games have a VGA mode in the US version but not in the PAL version? (eg Skies of Arcadia) Need to know which PAL versions I should bother to replace.

Yes mate, you only really want to be playing 3D stuff in VGA mode as almost (yes ALMOST) everything in 2D will look utter baws! It's not exactly a problem, its just that the majority of 2D sprite-based games were designed for low res outputs (15kHZ) as opposed to high-res (31kHZ) It ACTUALLY took me years to figure this out btw!!

You might have noticed that it's EXACTLY the same when you try playing emulated stuff like mame or zsnes on your pc. All these games look better in their native resolution with scanlines. I could go on but..
you get the idea! Just stick to RGB on your TV for 2D low-res stuff!!

Oh someone do me a favour and try Guilty Gear X through VGA. If I'm correct its one of the rare 2D games that was designed with high-res sprites meaning it will look AMAZING! NOT pixelly. Let me know!

The sad thing is, the ONLY game I'd want to play on my DC any more is Bangai-O. You think I want to use SCART through to my HD TV? :P Seeing as the control pads bring on premature RSI, I didn't bother.

Sorry, not helpful, but it still irks me how lazy Treasure were with this.

The whole reason for getting a Vga is because my scart won't centre picture on my HD-TV

I think I may have to buy an old TV set.......An LCD should do the job right?

It WILL do the job yes. But if you want the BEST possible picture.. try and get a hantarex monitor or a sony wega. I've just been informed that these are the only large crt 4:3 TVs you can get that have VGA ports.

Just hooked it up to my crappy PC moniter, christ it looks super!

It might be because my PC moniter is only 19 inchs but I've had no problems with any of my 2D games, Marvel vs Capcom looks lush!

Yup mate it DOES! It's a kinda hybrid high/low-res game though.. If you had a bigger monitor, (or look closer) You'll notice that all the sprites/characters are kinda blocky/pixcelly! AMAZING backdrops and pixcelly sprites. Everything else in the game should look amazing!! It's the same for capcom vs snk 1 and 2. Try Guilty Gear X though.. its 100% high-res!!!

Oh and what was the extra cable you needed?

Probably a cable to connect the VGA box sound output to some speakers ? Since VGA cable = video only, the VGA boxes tend to have 3.5mm stereo sockets, or L+R phono sockets.
