Maybe I'm missing something but couldn't it just be that your LCD for whatever reason doesn't like the N64 RGB signal, and there's nothing you can do about it?

I know that on my Samsung LCD, Megadrive, Master System etc won't sync, even though the SCART cables and consoles are 100% correct, Neo Geo works but flickers and is off-centre, and the only one that seems to work properly is Saturn and looks absolutely naff..

These LCDs weren't designed for the retro consoles and that's probably just the upshot of it..

Really James, that does happen does it? The two could just be incompatible? Odd though isnt it. You'd think a console would just work with a tv full stop.

        Balls.

Am desperate to play Excitebike though, and couldn't get the emulator to work either.

What emu are you trying Nicholas?

Can you still use s-video after the rgb mod. Might be a plan b is worst comes to the worst...

It was one for the xbox, forget what it was called. Project 64 is it?

It fired up ok, but couldn't see the roms, no matter where i put them.

Not tried s-vid Mark. Would that work?

Well - tried it (as in the Ntsc N64) on me Sony - worked ok but the colours seemed a bit washed (could be my settings) - also tried it on a Sammy 32" and it synced ok but looked cack...

Basically think it's up to your telly and the console if they want to work properly together methinks - just tried on a cheapy generic LCD and it wouldn't take the signal - similar to yours appearing as if it was a sync issue - maybe piddling around with some pots/res's on lines/ on differing tvs it might bring up some different results...

Oh - and on the xbox1 thing - its a matter of editing an .ini file - have a butchers over at xbs forums - theres tuts there

Thanks mate, thing is though it's a great picture on mine. Really sharp and saturated, just with a massive case of the fidgets.

I tried the ini, changed it to where the roms were held (all ones i have carts of aswell, i'll have you know ) but still nowt.

                  May give it another go.

US N64's support s-vid so it should work fine (assuming the rgb mod doesn't interfere with the signal).

I used to hook up my unmodded unit with an official GC s-video lead. Was near enough rgb quality on my crt but a bit poor on my lcd, but guess that's a prob with any standard def source.

Can't really help you with the emu thing unfortunately. I also use Project64 but it's the pc version so not much help!

The pc version is pretty impressive and the games look really nice at higher resolutions. Seem to remember you having a Mac though and sadly it's Windows only.

I am on a mac yes, we'll remembered. Think i'll try and persevere with the Xbox version.

Does the GS s-video lead have a scart end? Or is it an s-vid one?

Some versions of the N64 RGB mod disable composite and s-video - the one where you lift the pins off the video DAC. Sadly thats the only N64 RGB mod that gives a correct picture, others are too bright, too dark, or give interference.

Tbh the s-video signal from an ntsc N64 isn't bad at all, so maybe an un-modded machine is the best option.

I've done the pin-lift mod on my N64 though, and it works fine on a plasma tv. The problem won't be weak RGB signals, it would be composite sync/video. Depending on the scart cable you might have a 75 Ohm resister bridging composite video and ground. If it is a hacked Nintendo av cable, that might even be in the multi-av connector.

It was a Japanese lead (don't think PAL N64's or GC's support s-vhs) so just had a standard s-vid connector.

you can buy s-vid to scart adapters on ebay though.
