When are ram prices gonna drop?

    Does anyone have any idea?

    #2
    They have.

I paid ?130 or so for 512meg corsair xms pc2700 last October. It's ?85 quid now.

You don't want to know what other prices I've paid for ram in the past.

PCworld sell 512meg pc2700 (333 ddr) for 53 quid mate, so I dread to think what rip off merchants are charging ?60.

RAM prices are linked to weather and other acts of god in Asia.

              hehe.

I remember spending all my money on a 486 DX266, which was super leeto, especially with it's 32Mb of ram.

Oracle: if you want cheap but good ram then checkout the TwinMOS sticks with Winbond chips on. Last time i checked, a 256Mb PC3200 stick was about ?45.

You can't really place specific price drops on RAM without studying the various memory manufacturers (the so called dramurai) forecasts, the general state of play in Asia etc (where memory is made).

They're coming down all the time, as newer memories hit the market, but I wouldn't be so bold as to say "they will be cheaper in january".

Lol people complaining about 60 quid ram !!

My 1gb Mushkin Duall DDR was ?220 a few months ago, still same price now !

but its cas 2.0 5 2 2 2 ram so you get what you pay for !

                          The pcworld tat is 2.5 8 3 3 3.

Only ram id touch is Crucial, Corsair, Mushkin, OCZ.

Latest Twinmos/windbond is ****e tbh, other makes are a total lottery.

Also ram is high at the moment as DDR has saturated the market, there is no competition now.

DDR was sold at a loss for a while to make sure it took hold, cant blame them for making money now. Prices will probably hold for a while. DDR2 is aruound the corner so that should push prices down.

Buy ram when you need it not when the price is right, as it never will be !

Someone ran a test on the OCuk forum and found that the winbond chipped twinmos memory was actually Cas2 instead of the 2.5 that is often quoted.

Memory elitism i've heard it all now
