    I watched this...

I'm not sure if it mentions it in the video but the white surround on the bottom of it is glued to the main body so it takes a little bit of force to remove it. He probably did mention it but he has such a bland voice that I turned the audio off after about 3 seconds to stop me going insane.

As the video shows, crack the bottom skirt off and access is easy. I wouldn't bother glueing the skirt back on either.

OK, I've had enough and folded. I'm fed up Mighty Mouse getting dirty so I've ordered a new mouse.

I had a quick look on eBay and saw a Microsoft mouse (They make really good mice) going really cheap (?2:50) with a minute to go so bought it without checking the details first.

It's supplied with a USB dongle but I'm reeeaaally hoping that's for people with older machines rather than it being some sort of non blue tooth dongle. Because it's a fairly old model the only tech details I've been able to find just say wireless but aren't specific.

The model is a Microsoft BX4-00014, Thanks!!!

Not sure why but the only mouse I have ever found comfy to use is:

          Razer Copperhead

I really do not know how anyone can use the mighty mouse when there is worlds of comfort to be found elsewhere!

To be fair, I really liked the Mighty Mouse. I know that I'm in a minority but I had no problems at all with the button lay out and acceleration which other people keep mentioning. It just works for me and if it wasn't for the dirt issue I wouldn't even be thinking about replacing it.

I'm still struggling to find info on that mouse, I've got a horrible feeling that it's going to be some other form of wireless.

That mouse just seems to be a foreign version, albeit a cheaper version too of a more popular model. Should work OK I just would not hold any hopes for a battery life past a day or it dropping out from time to time!

If it has a dongle of it's own it should be fine non?

The Mighty Mouse isn't perfect, but the scroll ball is so handy. It's not a very comfortable little nub for your finger, but being able to scroll freely around a Photoshop document or a Final Cut Pro timeline etc is excellent.

Ive got that mouse down the factory, its comfortable and reliable having been in service for about 5 years for me now. It does need that dongle however and wont connect wirelessly through any other means, ive tried detecting it on my macbook before and it doesn't see it at all.

                    Thanks for that.

I've used Microsoft mice for years and I've never had any problems so that's why I jumped in a bought this without looking into it first. It's a shame about needing the dongle but I was expecting for it to be standard RF rather than bluetooth.

The mouse turned up this morning, I connected it using the dongle and first of all it disconnected my bluetooth keyboard and then my wireless router.

I've left it for now and I'll get myself a bluetooth mouse shortly after I've investigated a few.

I've had a bit of a mess around with things today and got a few questions now.
                      1. If I delete (Using AppZapper) apps such as Chess, iMovie, Spaces, Automator, etc due to not using them is it simply a matter using the OSX install discs that came with my Mac to add them again?
                      2. Are there any apps that people think I shouldn't remove because maybe they are being used in the background without me realising?
                      3. When I go into View Options while in a folder there is a selection there called Show Icon Preview, what does this do as I'm just not seeing any changes whether it's selected or not?

                      Comment

                        1. Yes
                        2. Yes. Things like Quicktime are needed by iTunes and others. If you tell me what particular ones you're thinking of killing I can advise.
                        3. View the folder in 'icon view' and try switching it on and off. You'll see what it does then.

I'd tried that before but just noticed the difference when inside a folder with images in.

You should see the difference on .doc & .pdf files, movies & some images. It should show the contents of the file as the content - i.e. should change from a generic doc icon to a tiny thumbnail of the first page, from a generic movie icon to a screenshot.

Just ordered my Airport Express as it seems ideal for what I'm after.

I've just been watching this video, I had no idea that the iPhone (Will have one in the next couple of months) could be used as a remote. Can it only be done locally or will I also be able to connect via a wireless hot spot when out?

                              Comment

the iPhone/iTunes Remote is great but can only be used locally because all it does is act as a, well, Remote.

if you want to access and control your music when out and about you can use the Simplify Media app. if your Mac (or PC) is online you can stream your iTunes library either via 3G or WiFi to your iPhone. it works great and if you know other people with the Simplify client installed on their machine, you can access their music as well.
